Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and fistulas (AVF) differ from all other pathology affecting the central nervous system by their high-flow arteriovenous shunts. Permanent occlusion of these shunts is the essence and the challenge of therapy. Much progress has been made since the first neurosurgical efforts to deal with these problems. Endovascular therapy and radiosurgery became accepted alternatives or adjuncts to surgery. In many instances the choice of the primary therapeutic modality is not clear and arguments can be found for several options. However, microsurgery, endovascular therapy and radiosurgery differ very much with regard to invasiveness, length of stay at the hospital but also residual risk after therapy. These secondary factors are often decisive for the choice of treatment modality. The book presents in a clearly structured way the modern treatment concepts. It has been written for all colleagues involved in surgery, radiosurgery and endovascular therapy of neurovascular malformations.

Nursing Care of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Patient

Free Download Nursing Care of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Patient By Cathy C. Cartwright, Donna C. Wallace
2013 | 450 Pages | ISBN: 364232553X | PDF | 18 MB
Nursing Care of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Patientis a detailed reference for nurses and other health care providers who care for children with neurosurgical problems. The explanations of pathophysiology, anatomy, radiodiagnostic testing, and treatment options for each neurosurgical diagnosis will help to clarify the rationale behind the nursing care. Descriptions of presenting symptoms, history and findings on neurological examination will help nurses understand the neurological disorder and identify problems. Each chapter includes case studies, impact on families, patient and family education, and practice pearls. Staff and student nurses working in clinics, critical care units, pediatric units, operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units, emergency departments, and radiology departments will benefit from the information presented. Although this book is written for nurses, medical students and neurosurgery residents will also find it helpful.

English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031535774 | 354 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 128 MB
In this book, internationally recognised experts provide an update on some important basic and technical aspects of neurosurgery. Intracranial tumours are the main focus of the book with chapters dealing with ependymomas, a tumour that still offers difficulties of interpretation in terms of both pathological features and management modalities, intraventricular tumours, which require particular attention in the choice of treatment modalities, and tumours considered typically paediatric that may still present in adulthood although with different aspects. Technical approaches to difficult anatomical areas are discussed in three chapters, dealing with the orbit, the craniocervical junction and the brainstem, respectively. Two rather didactic chapters, dealing with the minimally invasive technique for the spine and the clipping of cerebral aneurysms, are intended to contribute to the training of young neurosurgeons by illustrating the surgical steps in detail. The contribution of ultrasound to neurosurgery is illustrated in two chapters that should arouse great interest. The so-called Chiari malformations is approached in a chapter emphasising the role of cranio-cerebral disproportion in their pathogenesis. Finally, a chapter devoted to the ethical attitude that should characterise the daily practice of the neurosurgeon completes the book.
