I Never Did Like Politics How Fiorello La Guardia Became America’s Mayor, and Why He Still Matters [Audiobook]

Free Download Terry Golway, Jon Vertullo (Narrator), "I Never Did Like Politics: How Fiorello La Guardia Became America’s Mayor, and Why He Still Matters"
English | ASIN: B0CV4FK8ZV | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~09:00:00 | 258 MB
Fiorello LaGuardia was one of the twentieth century’s most colorful politicians-on the New York and national stage. He was also quintessentially American: the son of Italian immigrants, who rose in society through sheer will and chutzpah. Almost one hundred years later, America is once again grappling with issues that would have been familiar to the Little Flower, as he was affectionately known. It’s time to bring back LaGuardia, argues historian and journalist Terry Golway, to remind us all what an effective municipal officer (as he preferred to call himself) can achieve . . .
Golway examines LaGuardia’s extraordinary career through four essential qualities: As a patriot, a dissenter, a leader, and a statesman. He needed them all when he stood against the nativism, religious and racial bigotry, and reactionary economic policies of the 1920s, and again when he faced the realities of Depression-era New York and the rise of fascism at home and abroad in the 1930s. Just before World War II, the Roosevelt administration formally apologized to the Nazis when LaGuardia referred to Hitler as a "brown-shirted fanatic."

Never Not Working Why the Always-On Culture Is Bad for Business-and How to Fix It [Audiobook]

Free Download Malissa Clark, Lauren Pedersen (Narrator), "Never Not Working: Why the Always-On Culture Is Bad for Business-and How to Fix It"
English | ASIN: B0CQZ1FSLT | 2024 | MP3@64 kbps | ~05:19:00 | 151 MB
Many workers believe that to compete with other top talent they must embrace a culture that rewards long hours and constant connection to work. Businesses and society have encouraged this by endorsing busyness, overwork, and extreme commitment as the most valued traits in workers. Sometimes that endorsement is explicit, as when Elon Musk told Twitter employees to work "long hours at high intensity" or get fired. But more often it’s an implicit contract, a buildup of organizational and cultural norms and the adoption of new technologies that increasingly make it easy to tether people to work.
Either way, this workaholic behavior is unhealthy and counterproductive for workers and for organizations. It’s time to fight back. Malissa Clark shows you how in Never Not Working. Clark delivers a comprehensive definition of workaholism, busting myths along the way-such as the idea that the number of hours worked is the strongest predictor of workaholic tendencies. (It’s not.) She also helps you see if you’re creating workaholics in your organization or if you’re falling prey to the phenomenon yourself.
Deeply researched and written for everyone from leaders to individual contributors, Never Not Working is the essential guide to identifying workaholism in yourself and others and starting on the road to recovery.

The Tuskegee Airmen and the Never Lost a Bomber Myth

Free Download Daniel Haulman, "The Tuskegee Airmen and the "Never Lost a Bomber" Myth"
English | 2012 | pages: 31 | ISBN: 1588382443 | EPUB | 0,7 mb
During the first sixty years following World War II, a powerful myth grew up claiming that the Tuskegee Airmen, the only black American military pilots in the war, had been the only fighter escort group never to have lost a bomber to enemy aircraft fire. The myth was enshrined in articles, books, museum exhibits, television programs, and films. In actuality, the all-black 332d Fighter Group flew at least seven bomber escort missions, of the 179 it flew for the Fifteenth Air Force between early June 1944 and the end of April 1945, in which one or more of the bombers it escorted was shot down by enemy aircraft. In fact, 27 bombers the 332d Fighter Group was assigned to escort were shot down by enemy aircraft during the war, most during the summer of 1944.
