The Intelligible Universe An Overview Of The Last Thirteen Billion Years Ed 2

Free Download Julio a. Gonzalo Gonzalez, "The Intelligible Universe: An Overview Of The Last Thirteen Billion Years Ed 2"
English | ISBN: 9812794115 | 2008 | 368 pages | PDF | 35 MB
This interesting book reviews WMAP’s main results (2003) and discusses in detail how the accurate qualitative results for the "age" of the universe and the Hubble constant were anticipated in an article published five years before in Acta Cosmologica, Krakow. In the final chapter on "Cosmic Numbers", it is shown that, as a result of the coincidence at decoupling time between atom formation and matter/radiation equality, a reasonable cosmic justification for the mass ratio of protons and electrons is obtained. /remove

It may tum out that, like certain other phenomena studied by sociologists, bouts of interest in the foundations of quantum mechanics tend to come in 60-year cycles. It is hardly surprising that in the first decade or so of the subject the conceptual puzzles generated by this strange new way of looking at the world should have generated profound interest, not just among professional physicists themselves but also among philosophers and informed laymen; but this intense interest was followed by a fallow period in the forties and fifties when the physics establishment by and large took the view that the only puzzles left were the product either of incompetent application of the formalism or of bad philosophy, and only a few brave individualists like the late David Bohm dared to suggest that maybe there really was something there after all to worry about. As Bell and Nauenberg, surveying the scene in 1966, put it: "The typical physicist feels that [these questions 1 have long ago been answered, and that he will fully understand how if ever he can spare twenty minutes to think about it. ” But gradually, through the sixties and seventies, curiosity did revive, and the last ten years or so have seen a level of interest in foundational questions, and an involvement in them by some of the leading figures of contemporary physics, which is probably unparalleled since the earliest days.[/center]

Superaustenitic Stainless Steels A Comprehensive Overview

Free Download Superaustenitic Stainless Steels: A Comprehensive Overview by Alessio Malandruccolo
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 293 Pages | ISBN : 3031687434 | 56.7 MB
This book provides an exhaustive overview of a class of materials with distinct mechanical and corrosion resistance properties: superaustenitic stainless steels. It strives to fill the gap in the literature on these materials by offering a comprehensive overview based on the author’s experience in the metallurgical industry and by organizing information from the available literature. Topics are presented in a structured and detailed manner, accompanied by images and graphs created specifically for this book, including original material like optical micrographs Special attention is also given to cultural-historical aspects that are often overlooked but are critical for understanding the characteristics of the material. Superaustenitic stainless steels (SASSs) take the characteristics of austenitics to the extreme for maximum performance and feature a complex chemical composition of high Cr, Ni, Mo, and N content. The book is divided into four parts: an introduction to stainless steels, a chapter on the specific metallurgy of SASSs, a section on mechanical, physical, and corrosion resistance properties, and a chapter on production technologies, processing, and uses. It also includes extended appendices on the effects of alloying elements in steels and on the characteristics of the phases found in stainless steels. The book is addressed to a wide audience, from university students to professionals and consultants in the field who need literature support to innovate on materials and production processes.
