We focus on the stories that need to be told, the successes and the failures, and visions for a healthier and more compassionate future for humanity.

Infrastructure Public-Private Partnerships Decision, Management and Development

Free Download Infrastructure Public-Private Partnerships: Decision, Management and Development By Carlos Oliveira Cruz, Rui Cunha Marques (auth.)
2013 | 171 Pages | ISBN: 364236909X | PDF | 2 MB
Economic development and social welfare depend on the existence of effective and efficient infrastructure systems, particularly in health, energy, transportation and water, many of which are developed and managed through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). However, empirical evidence suggests some pitfalls in the use of these PPP arrangements. This book addresses these issues, focusing on mostly three key questions: How to improve the robustness of the decision-making process leading to the option of PPP? How to improve contract management as the longest phase of the process? How can contracts be improved to accommodate uncertainty and avoid harmful renegotiations? The authors explore the concept of flexible contracts, the uncertainty modeling for improving the robustness of the decision-making process, and develop an overall framework for effective contract management, along with a comprehensive analysis of current renegotiation patterns. The ultimate goal is to improve the contractual performance, as well as the overall infrastructure management and social welfare.

Free Download Joseph A. Mancini, "Globalization: Partnerships, Modernization and Future Perspectives "
English | ISBN: 1613245319 | 2012 | 442 pages | PDF | 12 MB
There are probably few concepts less understood, more cursed and blamed for everything imaginable, and yet perhaps result in so many outstanding developments as globalisation. Globalisation is the process of denationalisation of markets, politics and legal systems, i.e., the rise of the so-called global economy. The consequences of this political and economic restructuring on local economies, human welfare and environment are the subject of vigorous debate among businesses of all sizes, various international organisations, governmental institutions and the academic world. This book presents current research in the field of globalisation.

Public-Private Transportation Partnerships Around the World

Free Download George T. Telliford, "Public-Private Transportation Partnerships Around the World"
English | ISBN: 160692589X | 2013 | 195 pages | PDF | 19 MB
Transportation agencies around the world continue to face fiscal challenges caused by the growing gap between the costs of preserving and expanding highway infrastructure and available highway program funding. The lack of dedicated public funding sources for transportation (in most other countries high motor fuel taxes are generally used non-transportation social programs) and the burdens placed on current transportation infrastructure (both highway and rail) by a growing global economy has long prompted transportation policymakers overseas, especially in Western Europe, to develop and apply alternative ways to finance and deliver needed transportation infrastructure. A number of countries have turned to the private sector for relief in the form of contractual Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), representing a wide variety of project financing and delivery approaches to access capital markets; implement new technology; and expedite project delivery, operations, and maintenance in a more cost-effective manner. The common element of a PPP is that the public sponsor of infrastructure projects engages the private sector to a greater degree in the performance of certain functions previously handled by the public sector. This can range from contracted maintenance services to full financing, development, operations, and preservation. Some countries have effectively turned over the responsibilities, risks, and rewards associated with performing these functions to private sector through long-term concessions or franchises, whose financing is supported by tolls, shadow tolls, or availability payments (a form of shadow tolls).

Public-Private Partnerships in Health Care in India Lessons for developing countries

Free Download James Warner Björkman, "Public-Private Partnerships in Health Care in India: Lessons for developing countries"
English | 2008 | ISBN: 0415467284 | EPUB | pages: 244 | 0.8 mb
Public-private partnerships are increasingly advocated to alleviate deficiencies in the public health system as well as to reduce economic stress on those who seek services from an expensive, burgeoning and unregulated private health sector. Focusing on India, this book examines how the private sector in developing countries is tapped to deliver health care services to poor and under-served sections of society through collaborative arrangements with the government. Having emerged as a key reform initiative, aspects of public-private partnership are examined such as the genesis of private sector partnerships, the ways in which the private sector is encouraged to deliver public health services, and the models and formats that make such partnerships possible.

Public Private Partnerships Renegotiations in Transportation Case Studies from Portugal

Free Download Carlos Oliveira Cruz, "Public Private Partnerships Renegotiations in Transportation: Case Studies from Portugal "
English | ISBN: 3030985105 | 2022 | 207 pages | PDF | 6 MB
There is a growing interest in Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), particularly in infrastructure and public services. Under the scope of PPPs, renegotiations are becoming more relevant, as empirical evidence suggests that most PPP projects are inevitably renegotiated, i.e., the original contract needs to be adapted to new and unforeseen circumstances. Renegotiations have a substantial impact on the contract and performance of a PPP and usually represent significant costs for users and taxpayers. However, very little is known about the management and, mainly, the process of renegotiating that will, very likely, occur.

Engaging in Educational Research-Practice Partnerships

English | 2022 | ISBN: 1032135158, 1032132205 | PDF | pages: 191 | 2.6 mb
Engaging in Educational Research-Practice Partnerships guides academic researchers into forming mutually respectful, collaborative, and scalable partnerships with school practitioners. Despite robust theoretical and conceptual planning, research on learning is often removed from real settings and generates findings with limited practical relevance, yielding frustration for K-12 stakeholders. This book provides invaluable resources to researchers seeking to work with practitioners as they solve problems and improve outcomes while answering fundamental questions about who gets to generate knowledge, from where, to whom, and in what contexts. A range of illustrative case studies and strategies explores how to apply appropriate theories and methodologies, negotiate agendas that ensure mutually beneficial goals, determine the role of pracademics, establish institutional supports, policies, and procedures that amplify impact and sustainability, and much more.

University Partnerships for International Development

Free Download Patrick Blessinger, "University Partnerships for International Development "
English | ISBN: 1786353024 | 2016 | 288 pages | EPUB | 757 KB
This volume examines the diverse ways universities and colleges around the world are partnering and collaborating with other institutions to fulfill their missions and visions. University partnerships not only include collaborations between universities but also include university-school (basic education) collaborative partnerships to improve local school systems. The increasing pressures to remove access and participation barriers, and the increasing pressures to mitigate practices that restrict the free flow of education across borders have created a growing global space for educational services of all types. As a result, traditional institutional boundaries have expanded to better respond to increasing pressures placed on them by the growing demand for higher education services. The boundaries between educational institutions and other entities such as government, business, and non-profit organizations have become more fluid and this has resulted in increased involvement by institutions, faculty, and students in activities outside the traditional boundaries of the classroom. This edited volume will specifically explore university partnerships for international development.
