2013 | 262 Pages | ISBN: 1447141229 | PDF | 5 MB
This book discusses all aspects of computing for expressive performance, from the history of CSEMPs to the very latest research, in addition to discussing the fundamental ideas, and key issues and directions for future research. Topics and features: includes review questions at the end of each chapter; presents a survey of systems for real-time interactive control of automatic expressive music performance, including simulated conducting systems; examines two systems in detail, YQX and IMAP, each providing an example of a very different approach; introduces techniques for synthesizing expressive non-piano performances; addresses the challenges found in polyphonic music expression, from a statistical modelling point of view; discusses the automated analysis of musical structure, and the evaluation of CSEMPs; describes the emerging field of embodied expressive musical performance, devoted to building robots that can expressively perform music with traditional instruments.

Endurance AttitudesBehaviors, Performance in Athletes and Potential Health Effects

Free Download Pantelis Nikolaidis, "Endurance: Attitudes/Behaviors, Performance in Athletes and Potential Health Effects "
English | ISBN: 162948962X | 2014 | 64 pages | PDF | 1151 KB
Cardiorespiratory endurance is both a health-related and sport-related physical fitness component due to its association with health and well-being, and sports performance, respectively. Since the number of those participating in regular endurance training is continuously increasing, it is very interesting to explore performance, as well as the psychological and health aspects of endurance. This book attempts to address performance, psychological and health aspects of cardiorespiratory endurance. In this collective volume, we have tried to provide a background for understanding various aspects of endurance to the readers. We are thankful to all the authors for their valuable contributions. In addition, we thank the reviewers who corrected the chapters, and the staff of Nova ✅Publishers for their valuable suggestions.

Business Intelligence and Performance Management Theory, Systems and Industrial Applications

Free Download Business Intelligence and Performance Management: Theory, Systems and Industrial Applications By Hans-Georg Kemper, Peter Rausch, Henning Baars (auth.), Peter Rausch, Alaa F. Sheta, Aladdin Ayesh (eds.)
2013 | 269 Pages | ISBN: 1447148657 | PDF | 7 MB
During the 21st century business environments have become more complex and dynamic than ever before. Companies operate in a world of change influenced by globalisation, volatile markets, legal changes and technical progress. As a result, they have to handle growing volumes of data and therefore require fast storage, reliable data access, intelligent retrieval of information and automated decision-making mechanisms, all provided at the highest level of service quality. Successful enterprises are aware of these challenges and efficiently respond to the dynamic environment in which their business operates.Business Intelligence (BI) and Performance Management (PM) offer solutions to these challenges and provide techniques to enable effective business change. The important aspects of both topics are discussed within this state-of-the-art volume. It covers the strategic support, business applications, methodologies and technologies from the field, and explores the benefits, issues and challenges of each. Issues are analysed from many different perspectives, ranging from strategic management to data technologies, and the different subjects are complimented and illustrated by numerous examples of industrial applications. Contributions are authored by leading academics and practitioners representing various universities, research centres and companies worldwide. Their experience covers multiple disciplines and industries, including finance, construction, logistics, and public services, amongst others.Business Intelligence and Performance Management is a valuable source of reference for graduates approaching MSc or PhD programs and for professionals in industry researching in the fields of BI and PM for industrial application.

Tools for High Performance Computing 2012

Free Download Tools for High Performance Computing 2012 By David Lecomber, Patrick Wohlschlegel (auth.), Alexey Cheptsov, Steffen Brinkmann, José Gracia, Michael M. Resch, Wolfgang E. Nagel (eds.)
2013 | 162 Pages | ISBN: 3642373488 | PDF | 6 MB
The latest advances in the High Performance Computing hardware have significantly raised the level of available compute performance. At the same time, the growing hardware capabilities of modern supercomputing architectures have caused an increasing complexity of the parallel application development. Despite numerous efforts to improve and simplify parallel programming, there is still a lot of manual debugging and tuning work required. This process is supported by special software tools, facilitating debugging, performance analysis, and optimization and thus making a major contribution to the development of robust and efficient parallel software. This book introduces a selection of the tools, which were presented and discussed at the 6th International Parallel Tools Workshop, held in Stuttgart, Germany, 25-26 September 2012.

Energy-Efficient High Performance Computing Measurement and Tuning

Free Download Energy-Efficient High Performance Computing: Measurement and Tuning By James H. Laros III, Kevin Pedretti, Suzanne M. Kelly, Wei Shu, Kurt Ferreira, John Van Dyke, Courtenay Vaughan (auth.)
2013 | 67 Pages | ISBN: 1447144910 | PDF | 2 MB
In this work, the unique power measurement capabilities of the Cray XT architecture were exploited to gain an understanding of power and energy use, and the effects of tuning both CPU and network bandwidth. Modifications were made to deterministically halt cores when idle. Additionally, capabilities were added to alter operating P-state. At the application level, an understanding of the power requirements of a range of important DOE/NNSA production scientific computing applications running at large scale is gained by simultaneously collecting current and voltage measurements on the hosting nodes. The effects of both CPU and network bandwidth tuning are examined, and energy savings opportunities without impact on run-time performance are demonstrated. This research suggests that next-generation large-scale platforms should not only approach CPU frequency scaling differently, but could also benefit from the capability to tune other platform components to achieve more energy-efficient performance.
