Glamour and Geology Women in Petroleum Geology and Popular Culture

Free Download Glamour and Geology: Women in Petroleum Geology and Popular Culture by E. Allen Driggers
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 285 Pages | ISBN : 3031645243 | 37.7 MB
During the twentieth century, especially during World War II, female geologists were potrayed as having a glamourous and unique job. Newspapers, the oil industry, and other publications published stories about the glamorous working geologist, comparing them to movie stars and scientists working on the important production of oil. This book explores the image of the female geologist as it changed from the "accomplished" woman of the Victorian era to the professional, and glamourous geologists of World War II and beyond. Women working in geology, especially petroleum geology, embraced the image and some participated in its promotion. In those same newspaper articles, some geologists began to speak out and ultimately discuss some of the problems they experienced while working in the field and in industry. This book discusses the role of working women geologists not only in the profession, but as a part of popular culture in the twentieth century.

Don’t Go Near The Water British Petroleum and Alaska Worker’s Compensation Division Practices Exposed

English | 2010 | ISBN: 1594331332 | EPUB | pages: 142 | 0.6 mb
At British Petroleum’s power plant on the oil-field at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, a worker experienced nearly a decade of health issues. Repair of a contamination source in the drinking water system, with its sudden resolution of some of the symptoms, both revealed the problem and presented an unexpected situation. Management reacted and a man 55 years old lost his job and career as the situation was buried. Actions of some professionals and the state’s people simply seemed to be one-sidedly, goal oriented-and all a disaster for the victim. Medical input concerned cancer and there has been, as feared, an exceptional amount of cancer among the plant’s crew-members. Several of them have already died. This book is an effort to tell the story in an attempt to get the remaining crew members monitored for their protection. Be prepared to encounter some unexpected and possibly troubling things. "What happened with the potable water system at CPS was a blunder; pure and simple. What happened after that was not even close to right.’

Petroleum Geology and Exploration of the Bongor Basin

Free Download Petroleum Geology and Exploration of the Bongor Basin by Lirong Dou , Kunye Xiao , Jingchun Wang
English | EPUB (True) | 2023 | 497 Pages | ISBN : 9811926727 | 343.1 MB
This book offers case study of the tridimensional exploration in whole exploration cycle with comprehensive and systematic geological and geophysical studies in the Bongor Basin. Focused on the typical intensively inversed rift basin-the Bongor Basin in Chad, this book establishes petroleum geology model, accumulation model of the typical intensively inversed rift basin and ensemble exploration techniques by studying comprehensively through the lens of structural geology, petrology, geochronology, sedimentology, paleontology, petroleum geochemistry, petroleum geology, and hydrocarbon accumulation dynamics studies on both granite buried hill and sandstone reservoir. Based on the cases in whole exploration cycle and abundant primary research resource (some are first published in public) in the Bongor Basin, this book is a valuable reference for researchers, managers, instructors, and students who engaged in petroleum exploration.

Fundamentals of Basin and Petroleum Systems Modeling

It is with great satisfaction and personal delight that I can write the foreword for this book Fundamentals of Basin and Petroleum Systems Modeling by Thomas Hantschel and Armin Ingo Kauerauf. It is a privilege for us geosci- tists that two outstanding physicists, with scientic backgrounds in numerical methods of continuum-mechanics and in statistical physics respectively could be won to deeply dive into the numerical simulation of complex geoprocesses The keen interest in the geosciences of ThomasHantschelandArminI.Kau- auf and their patience with more descriptive oriented geologists, geochemists, sedimentologists and structural geologists made it possible to write this book, a profound and quantitative treatment of the mathematical and physical – pects of very complex geoprocesses. In addition to their investigative int- est during their patient dialogue with afore mentioned geological specialists Thomas Hantschel and Armin I. Kauerauf gained a great wealth of practical experience by cooperating closely with the international upstream petroleum industry during their years with the service company IES, Integrated Exp- ration Systems. Their book will be a milestone in the advancement of modern geosciences. The intelligent usage of modern high speed computers made all this possible.
