The articles in this book review hybrid experimental-computational methods applied to soft tissues which have been developed by worldwide specialists in the field. People developing computational models of soft tissues and organs will find solutions for calibrating the material parameters of their models; people performing tests on soft tissues will learn what to extract from the data and how to use these data for their models and people worried about the complexity of the biomechanical behavior of soft tissues will find relevant approaches to address this complexity.

Global Community Policing Problems and Challenges

Free Download Global Community Policing: Problems and Challenges By Arvind Verma, Dilip K. Das, Manoj Abraham
2012 | 290 Pages | ISBN: 1439884161 | PDF | 4 MB
In nations all over the world, community policing has been found extremely beneficial in improving public confidence in the police. Community-oriented policing and police-citizen cooperation is now the accepted framework for all progressive police departments. Drawn from the proceedings at the 2010 International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) in Kerala, India and other IPES sources, Global Community Policing: Problems and Challenges presents new insights into this policing model and a critical appraisal of successes and challenges in various jurisdictions across the globe. The book begins with a chapter on how governments can design, implement, and support community policing based on lessons learned from history. Next, it explores research findings and pilot programs for community policing in eight different regions from Sweden to South Africa. Topics addressed include police safety, female empowerment, the impact of emotional intelligence on community policing, predatory leadership, operational challenges, interactions between police and persons with mental illness, and civilian policing. The book examines ways of measuring the success of police policies through citizen surveys and other methods. It also discusses Operation Weed and Seed, a community policing initiative in the United States. A valuable resource for researchers and practitioners of community-oriented policing, this book demonstrates how the practices and even some of the principles guiding the framework of community policing vary greatly across jurisdictions. By reviewing the benefits and challenges inherent in this innovative policing model, police administrators can devise systems that best meet the needs of their communities.

Economics and Politics in the USSR Problems of Interdependence

English | 2019 | ISBN: 0367006499, 0367156369 | EPUB | pages: 318 | 3.3 mb
Soviet scholars have apparently stayed clear of meaningful analysis of such touchy subjects as interdependence and conflict in the relationship between economics and politics. Very little has been published on this issue―no surprise in a system that controls centrally both politics and the economy, with an emphasis on rapid economic development. The absence of meaningful Soviet research led the Federal Institute for East European and International Studies in Cologne to sponsor an international interdisciplinary conference on the subject. Contributions to the resulting book cover three main areas. The first includes the impact of traditional Russian political culture on contemporary Soviet economic thinking and behavior, the rank of economic aims in the priority system of Soviet politics, and the function of economic institutions in the implementation of political aims. The second concerns the role of political lobbies in the economy and repercussions of economic change for Soviet politics. Foreign economic relations and the USSR’s foreign policy make up the third area. The concluding discussion reviews the state of international research and identifies areas for future study.

The Taming of Scarcity and the Problems of Plenty Rethinking International Relations and American Grand Strategy in a New Era

Free Download The Taming of Scarcity and the Problems of Plenty: Rethinking International Relations and American Grand Strategy in a New Era (Adelphi) by Francis J. Gavin
English | March 7, 2024 | ISBN: 1032805579 | True EPUB/PDF | 106 pages | 0.8/4.2 MB
The underlying structure, incentives and costs shaping international relations, state behaviour and the nature of power are profoundly different today to how they were in the past, in ways that are scarcely recognised and widely misunderstood. For much of history, world politics was marked by profound scarcity in resources, information and security. A series of historical revolutions has largely tamed this scarcity in ways few could have imagined. These revolutions, however, have generated new, potentially catastrophic challenges for the world – the problems of plenty.

The Soviet Union 198485 Events, Problems, Perspectives

English | 2019 | ISBN: 0367296071, 0367311534 | EPUB | pages: 349 | 2.9 mb
In 1984 and 1985, the swift succession in the USSR’s leadership affected all levels of Soviet society. This eighth volume in a series of biennial reports on the Soviet Union analyzes domestic affairs, economics, and foreign policy in light of that succession. Power struggles within the highest echelons of the Soviet communist party are examined. Contributors evaluate prospects for the attempted economic modernization in a system that leaves little room for radical reform. Moscow’s swings between extremes of self-isolation and readiness to talk raise questions about foreign and security policy during die transitional period. The contributors also identify perspectives, priorities, and trends for the future of Soviet politics, economics, and social developments. The Federal Institute for East European and International Studies in Cologne was established in 1961 as an academically autonomous research institution. It operates under the administrative and financial authority of Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior.

The Economic Problems of Europe Pre-War and After

Free Download M. Philips Price, "The Economic Problems of Europe: Pre-War and After"
English | 2021 | ISBN: 1032151757, 1032151749 | EPUB | pages: 216 | 0.6 mb
First Published in 1928 The Economic Problems of Europe presents a comprehensive overview of the economic and political transformation of Europe since the First World War. European and world problems often tend to be looked upon from the political, diplomatic, naval, or military aspect. Morgan Philips Price attempted to add the economic background and to show the connection between the political rearrangements since the First World War and the material needs of society, markets of the industrialist, the wages of the workman, and the loans of the bankers. He argued that with the growing internationalization of the world economy, the old map of the world is obsolete and the new one, if it is based on frontiers of finance and industry, will be something very different. This book is an essential read for scholars and researchers of economic history, war history, political economy, British economic history and European history.

Sensational Shape Problems & Other Puzzles

Free Download Ivan Moscovich, "Sensational Shape Problems & Other Puzzles "
English | ISBN: 1402723474 | 2005 | 128 pages | PDF | 7 MB
Avid puzzle mavens will spend hours slicing and dicing these wildly-hued brainbusters. That’s because so many of the problems deal with dissecting geometric shapes-polygons, hexagons, squares, even a chessboard-into congruent parts or figuring out how the split parts would fit back together again. For example, to complete "Exploding Star," solvers have to copy the star in the book, cut it carefully into 12 colored pieces, and then rearrange them into four identical replicas of the big star. But this tough but fascinating collection has lots more to offer: there are tangram paradoxes that offer a new spin on the ancient Chinese game, mathematical conundrums dealing with weight and gravity, Egyptian rope puzzles, and host of other complex challenges.
