Prospects for Sustainable Development in the Chinese Countryside The Political Economy of Chinese Ecological Agriculture

Free Download Richard Sanders, "Prospects for Sustainable Development in the Chinese Countryside: The Political Economy of Chinese Ecological Agriculture"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 1138700231 | EPUB | pages: 240 | 0.7 mb
This title was first published in 2000: An examination of the potential for Chinese ecological agriculture providing a basis for sustainable development in the Chinese countryside. Richard Sanders involves primary research in seven villages and four countries in China that have adopted ecological agriculture. He examines the concept of sustainable development generally and analyses China’s political-economic policies towards the countryside since 1949, the impacts on the environment and the state of China’s environmental protection. The study addresses three main questions: 1. Is Chinese ecological agriculture worth adopting – specifically does CEA promise a form of sustainable rural development? 2. To the extent that it does, what are the social, political and economic conditions in the Chinese countryside which most favour its extension? 3. To the extent that these conditions are restrictive, what can the Chinese authorities do to make them less so and thus encourage its extension? The study concludes that the CEA, despite certain difficulties and problems, holds out the prospect of a more sustainable future for the rural economy than more usual forms of activity in the Chinese countryside. It finds that the conditions for adopting CEA are restrictive and that while the Chinese government is in favour of extending CEA it must reconsider questions of land management and ownership and assess long-term needs.

Regional Resurgence in Africa Prospects and Challenges of African Union

Free Download Sandipani Dash, "Regional Resurgence in Africa: Prospects and Challenges of African Union"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 9385563742 | EPUB | pages: 198 | 0.3 mb
Regional Resurgence in Africa: Prospects and Challenges of African Union perceives the AU as a Pan-African entity with its mandate for ‘comprehensive security’ in the continent, implying its pursuit of three security objectives: resolution of armed conflicts, political stability and economic security. The AU’s interrelationship with the state system, existing and emerging social faultlines, and the multiple regional processes in Africa are interrogated by undertaking case studies on territorial, political and economic security concerns. The findings of this analysis are used to explore the scope for policy improvisation pertaining to the interface among the AU, its member countries and the emerging extra-regional powers, including India.

Methane Conversion Routes Status and Prospects (Green Chemistry Series, Volume 76)

Free Download Methane Conversion Routes: Status and Prospectsby Vladimir Galvita
English | September 29, 2023 | ISBN: 1788014308 | 376 pages | MOBI | 15 Mb
Currently the majority of carbon-based feedstocks come from fossil fuels of which there is a finite supply. Methane is an abundantly available carbon-based feedstock, with large amounts now available through fracking and renewable sources available from biogas plants. However, methane is not very chemically reactive. One of the remaining "grand challenges" in chemistry is the development of clean, efficient, affordable processes that allow methane to be converted to other high value molecules.

Armenian Terrorism The Past, The Present, The Prospects

Free Download Francis P Hyland, "Armenian Terrorism: The Past, The Present, The Prospects"
English | 2021 | ISBN: 081338124X, 0367015854, 0367165724 | EPUB | pages: 248 | 0.5 mb
Arising seemingly out of nowhere, Armenian terrorist groups in the last two decades have carried out over 200 attacks in some two dozen countries around the world. Although this wave of terror at first appears to have sprung up without warning, a closer look at Armenian history, especially since World War I, shows that it is only the most recent in a series of outbreaks of ethnic violence. In this study, the author examines the social and political background of Armenian terrorism and its similarities to and differences from other terrorist movements, and he carefully dissects the organizational methods of these groups. An important feature of the work is an extensive and detailed chronology of Armenian terrorism from 1915 to the present. Each entry provides essential information concerning the date and time of the attack, location, victims, weapons used, terrorist groups and individual commandos responsible for the attack, and a list of sources for further reference. A resource for specialists studying terrorism and ethnic violence, Armenian Terrorism should also be useful to those interested in the tragic and difficult history of Armenia and Turkey.

Water Institutions Policies, Performance and Prospects

Free Download Water Institutions: Policies, Performance and Prospects By Chennat Gopalakrishnan (auth.), Professor Chennat Gopalakrishnan, Professor Asit K. Biswas, Dr. Cecilia Tortajada (eds.)
2005 | 210 Pages | ISBN: 3540238115 | PDF | 2 MB
It is being increasingly realised that water is likely to be one of the most critical resource issues for the first half of the twenty-first century. Accelerating demand for water for various uses and user groups and ineffective measures to address – ter quality decline from point and non-point sources of pollution, have made water management more complex and difficult than ever before in human history. All the current trends indicate that water management will become even more c- plex in the future because of society’s higher demands for good quality water, and new and emerging impacts on the water sector due to the forces of globalisation. These include the liberalisation of trade in agricultural and manufactured products, information and communication revolution, and technological developments in – eas traditionally not considered to be water-oriented, like biotechnology. Impacts of these new and emerging forces on the water sector are still not fully understood or appreciated at present, but they are likely to change water use practices d- matically in many countries of the world during the coming decades.

The Internationalization of the Academy Changes, Realities and Prospects

Free Download The Internationalization of the Academy: Changes, Realities and Prospects By Futao Huang (auth.), Futao Huang, Martin Finkelstein, Michele Rostan (eds.)
2014 | 302 Pages | ISBN: 9400772777 | PDF | 3 MB
This volume provides a nuanced empirical assessment of the extent to which the academic profession is internationalized at the beginning of the 21st century. It indicates which are the most internationalized academic activities, and focuses on specific topics such as physical mobility for study or professional purposes, teaching abroad or in another language, research collaboration with foreign colleagues, and publication and dissemination outside one’s native country or in another language. It places the main theme in the wider context of the history of higher education’s internationalization. It provides explanations on what drives and deters academics from international activity, and documents some of the consequences that internationalization has on academic work and productivity. This study is based on a survey of 25,000 academics working at higher education institutions in 18 countries and Hong Kong on five continents. Comparing data from the 1992 Carnegie International study to the 2007 CAP survey, relying on respondents’ perceptions of change, and comparing different academic generations, it offers valuable insights on changes in the internationalization of the academy.
