Carl Trueman Analyzes How Ancient Creeds and Confessions Protect and Promote Biblical Christianity in a Culture of Expressive Individualism
Historic statements of faith-such as the Heidelberg Catechism, the Apostles’ Creed, and the Westminster Confession of Faith-have helped the Christian church articulate and adhere to God’s truth for centuries. However, many modern evangelicals reject these historic documents and the practices of catechesis, proclaiming their commitment to "no creed but the Bible." And yet, in today’s rapidly changing culture, ancient liturgical tradition is not only biblical-it’s essential.
In Crisis of Confidence, Carl Trueman analyzes how creeds and confessions can help the Christian church navigate modern concerns, particularly around the fraught issue of identity. He contends that statements of faith promote humility, moral structure, and a godly view of personhood, helping believers maintain a strong foundation amid a culture in crisis. This is a revised edition of Trueman’s The Creedal Imperative, now with a new section on the rise of expressive individualism.

Author: Sam Jolman, John Eldredge
Narrator: Sam Jolman, John Eldredge

Men today are starved for sexual formation. They’ve been failed by parents, churches, and culture alike, leading to widespread shame, confusion, and brokenness in the area of sexuality. In The Sex Talk You Never Got, therapist Sam Jolman helps men reconnect their God-given sexuality with innocence, awe, and joy, and shows listeners how to celebrate-instead of struggle against-the gift of sexual desire. In our sex-saturated world, it might seem surprising that men need more talk about sex. But the reality is that sexuality is one of the most neglected aspects of men’s lives. From the woefully inadequate sex talks many young men receive from parents (little more than an anatomy lesson or a purity lecture, if anything at all) to cultural messages that unhelpfully weave both shame and permissiveness into men’s understanding of their own sexuality and masculinity, too many boys and men experience sexual desire as an area of struggle, confusion, and brokenness. But it doesn’t need to be this way. God made men to be moved, to live with wonder and awe-and sexual desire must be formed within the context of that design. Sam Jolman, a professional therapist who specializes in men’s issues and sexual trauma recovery, shows men the way out of the wilds of sexual struggle.

Activating the Common Good Reclaiming Control of Our Collective Well-Being

Free Download Activating the Common Good: Reclaiming Control of Our Collective Well-Being by Peter Block, Alex Christiansen, Berrett-Koehler ✅Publishers, Inc.
English | November 17, 2023 | ISBN: B0CNKSCNP6 | 4 hours and 22 minutes | MP3 64 kbps | 120 Mb
A powerful, inspiring, and achievable vision of a society based on cooperation and community instead of competition and commodification.
This book counters the dominant and destructive story that we are polarized, violent, selfish, and destined to consume everything in sight. That is not who we are.
The challenge, Peter Block says, is that we are suffering under an economic theology that is based on scarcity, self-interest, competition, and infinite growth. We’re told we can purchase and outsource all that matters. Block calls this the "business perspective narrative." It dominates not only the economy but also architecture, faith communities, journalism, arts, neighborhoods, and much more.

A Cross-Shattered Church Reclaiming the Theological Heart of Preaching

Free Download Stanley Hauerwas, "A Cross-Shattered Church: Reclaiming the Theological Heart of Preaching"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 1587432587 | EPUB | pages: 112 | 0.5 mb
In this work, eminent theologian Stanley Hauerwas shows how the sermon is the best context for doing good theology. He writes, "I am convinced that the recovery of the sermon as the context for theological reflection is crucial if Christians are to negotiate the world in which we find ourselves." The book includes seventeen sermons preached by Hauerwas, which he considers his best theological work and hopes exemplify the work of theology. The sermons are divided into four sections: seeing, saying, living, and events. Titles range from Believing Is Seeing and Was It Fitting for Jesus to Die on a Cross? to Only Fear Can Drive Out Fear and To Be Made Human. Each sermon includes where and when it was preached and references relevant Scripture passages. Excerpt I have increasingly come to the recognition that one of the most satisfying contexts for doing the work of theology is in sermons. That should not be surprising because throughout Christian history, at least until recently, the sermon was one of the primary places in which the work of theology was done. For the work of theology is first and foremost to exposit scripture. That modern theology has become less and less scriptural, that modern theology has often tried to appear as a form of philosophy, is but an indication of its alienation from its proper work. I am, therefore, making these sermons available because I think they are not only my best theological work, but because I hope they exemplify the work of theology.
