Free Download Doug Smith, Michael E. Clarke, "China’s Frontier Regions: Ethnicity, Economic Integration and Foreign Relations"
English | 2016 | ISBN: 1784532584 | EPUB | pages: 224 | 0.5 mb
China has traditionally viewed her frontier regions-Zxinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia and Yunnan-as buffer zones. Yet their importance as commercial and cosmopolitan hubs, intimately involved in the transmission of goods, peoples and ideas between China and it west and southwest has meant they are crucial for China’s ongoing development. The resurgence of China under Deng Xiaoping’s policy of ‘reform and opening’ has therefore led to a focus on integrating these regions into the PRC (People’s Republic of China). This has important implications not only for the frontier regions themselves but also for the neighbouring states, with which they have strong cultural, religious, linguistic and economic ties. China’s Frontier Regions explores the challenges presented by this integrationist policy, both for domestic relations and for diplomatic and foreign policy relations with the countries abutting their frontier regions.

Entrepreneurship and innovation in second tier regions

Free Download Entrepreneurship and innovation in second tier regions By Heike Mayer
2011 | 272 Pages | ISBN: 1847203590 | PDF | 3 MB
Second tier high-tech regions are taking a different path than their well-known counterparts such as Silicon Valley or Route 128 around Boston. They may lack many prerequisites of growth such as a world-class research university or high levels of venture capital funding. Often, however, they can successfully leverage anchor firms and entrepreneurial spinoffs. This book explores the evolution of these regions in the United States. The author critically examines how they evolved as knowledge-based economies, how they leveraged entrepreneurship and innovation, and ultimately how they employed public policy to support economic growth.Filling a gap in the literature, the book speaks to researchers and policy makers across the fields of entrepreneurship, economic geography and economic development planning. Entrepreneurship researchers will find this book interesting because it focuses on the role of new venture creation in regional economic development.

Free Download Zeina Sleiman-Long, "Sanctuary Regions and the Struggle for Belonging: Undocumented Immigrants in the United States"
English | 2020 | pages: 143 | ISBN: 3030448878, 3030448843 | PDF | 1,5 mb
This book argues that local governments and institutions across the state of California that offer various forms of sanctuaries to undocumented immigrants create "sanctuary regions." These regions are safe zones for undocumented immigrants and facilitate their ability to make claims for human rights. The book also argues that these regions create an important form of resistance to federal state authority in terms of immigration and the management of borders – something that is typically attributed to state power in the study of International Relations (IR). This book includes overviews of how undocumented immigrants make claims for human rights as well as the ways in which sanctuary regions facilitate "acts of citizenship" and resist anti-immigrant policies.
