Free Download Sam Juneau, "A Chateau of One’s Own: Restoration Misadventures In France"
English | 2007 | pages: 320 | ISBN: 1840246413 | EPUB | 2,8 mb
Sam and Bud were ordinary first-time home buyers in their early thirties. Their intention, in moving to France, was to create a simple life in a place where they could spend time with their children. The home they actually bought was a 17th century chateau in the Loire valley withmore than 30rooms. Chateau Du Bonchamps had been the seat of noble families as far back as 1507. With only modest savings, Sam and Bud launched the exciting project of restoring this extraordinary building to its former glory. Over several years they renovated 10,000 square feet of house, installed countless bathrooms, painted 156 windows, put the 40-acre park and gardens into some semblance of order, and started a bed and breakfast against resistance from the locals. Their hard work prevailed; their chateau quadrupled in value. The things we dream do not always fit nicely with the realities of everyday life. This is an insightful glimpse of what it truly means to leave everything behind to pursue a dream.

Restoration Charles II and His Kingdoms, 1660-1685

Free Download Tim Harris, "Restoration: Charles II and His Kingdoms, 1660-1685"
English | 2006 | pages: 528 | ISBN: 0140264655, 0713991917 | EPUB | 7,2 mb
The late 17th century was a period of extraordinary turbulence and political violence in Britain, the like of which has never been seen since. Beginning with the Restoration of the monarchy after the Civil War, this book traces the fate of the monarchy from Charles II’s triumphant accession in 1660 to the growing discontent of the 1680s. Harris looks beyond the popular image of Restoration England reveling in its freedom from the austerity of Puritan rule under a merry monarch and reconstructs the human tragedy of Restoration politics where people were brutalized, hounded, and exploited by a regime that was desperately insecure after two decade of civil war and republican rule.

The Restoration of Rome Barbarian Popes and Imperial Pretenders

Free Download The Restoration of Rome: Barbarian Popes and Imperial Pretenders by Peter Heather, Allan Robertson, Audible Studios
English | 2014 | ISBN: B00KC09BG2 | Format: MP3 / 18 hours and 46 minutes + PDF | 514 Mb
In AD 476, the last of Rome’s emperors, known as "Augustulus", was deposed by a barbarian general, the son of one of Attila the Hun’s henchmen. With the imperial vestments dispatched to Constantinople, the curtain fell on the Roman empire in Western Europe, its territories divided among successor kingdoms constructed around barbarian military manpower. But, if the Roman Empire was dead, Romans across much of the old empire still lived, holding on to their lands, their values, and their institutions. The conquering barbarians, responding to Rome’s continuing psychological dominance and the practical value of many of its institutions, were ready to reignite the imperial flame and enjoy the benefits. As Peter Heather shows in dazzling biographical portraits, each of the three greatest immediate contenders for imperial power – Theoderic, Justinian, and Charlemagne – operated with a different power base but was astonishingly successful in his own way. Though each in turn managed to put back together enough of the old Roman West to stake a plausible claim to the Western imperial title, none of their empires long outlived their founders’ deaths. Not until the reinvention of the papacy in the 11th century would Europe’s barbarians find the means to establish a new kind of Roman Empire, one that has lasted 1,000 years.
A sequel to the best-selling Fall of the Roman Empire, The Restoration of Rome offers a captivating narrative of the death of an era and the birth of the Catholic Church.

It is even possible to preserve a classic tractor in its working condition, which has a unique appeal to some tractor collectors and in some ways, is harder than a full restoration to undertake. Practical techniques have been amply illustrated throughout the book, ranging from the simple use of a lathe or milling machine to the making from scratch of various tools useful in restoration work. Rather than just replacing items such as carburetor, starter motor or dynamo, practical advice is given on how to test and rebuild these components back to full operation. Fifty-two practical picture spreads show techniques suitable for restorers of all levels of skill.

The Abe Restoration Contemporary Japanese Politics and Reformation

Free Download Craig Mark, "The Abe Restoration: Contemporary Japanese Politics and Reformation"
English | ISBN: 1498516769 | 2016 | 184 pages | EPUB | 841 KB
Shinzo Abe returned to office as Prime Minister of Japan 2012, leading the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for a second time. This book examines how Abe has sought a restoration of Japanese primacy at three levels: political, through the restoration of the traditional postwar parliamentary dominance of the LDP; economic, through his signature policy known as "Abenomics," which aims to restore Japan’s economic prosperity and end decades-long deflationary stagnation; and strategic, in which Abe wishes to restore Japan to a prominent role in regional and international security by reinterpreting and potentially altering or even abolishing Article 9 of the constitution, which would allow greater deployment of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. This study argues that Abe has achieved overall political dominance, being re-elected in 2014, and has passed controversial legislation allowing Japan to exercise collective self-defense, but it also contends that Abenomics has yet to lift the country out of its long-running deflationary stagnation.
