This volume contains the papers presented at the 2nd European Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2005) held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, from 29th May to 1st June, 2005. The vision of the Semantic Web is to enhance today’s Web via the exploi- tion of machine-processable metadata. The explicit representation of the sem- tics of data, accompanied with domain theories (ontologies), will enable a web that provides a qualitatively new level of service. It will weave together an – crediblylargenetworkofhumanknowledgeandwillcomplementitwithmachine processability. Various automated services will help the user to achieve goals by accessing and providing information in a machine-understandable form. This process may ultimately create extremely knowledgeable systems with various specialized reasoning services systems. Many technologies and methodologies are being developed within arti?cial intelligence, human language technology, machine learning, databases, software engineering and information systems that can contribute to the realization of this vision. The 2nd Annual European Semantic Web Conference presented the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. Following the success of the ?rst edition, ESWC showed a signi?cant increase in participation. With148submissions,thenumberofpapersdoubledthatofthepreviousedition. Each submission was evaluated by at least three reviewers. The selection process resulted in the acceptance of 48 papers for publication and presentation at the conference (an acceptance rate of 32%). Papers did not come only from Europe but also from other continents.

1 The International Workshop on Recon?gurable Computing (ARC) started in 2005 in Algarve, Portugal. The major motivation was to create an event where on-going research e?orts as well as more elaborated, interesting and hi- quality work on applied recon?gurable computing could be presented and d- cussed. Over the last couple of years recon?gurable computing has become a we- known and established research area producing interesting as well as important results in both general and embedded computing systems. It is also getting more and more interest from industry which is attracted by the (design and development) ?exibility as well as the performance improvements that can be expected from this technology. As recon?gurablecomputing has blurred the gap between software and hardware, some even speak of a radical new programming paradigm opening a new realm of unseen applications and opportunities. The logo of the ARC workshop is the Nonius, a measurement instrument used in the Portuguese period of discoveries that was invented by Pedro Nunes, a Portuguesemathematician. As the logo suggests, the main motto of ARC is to help to navigate the world of recon?gurable computing. Driven by this motto, we hope ARC contributes to solid advances on recon?gurable computing.

The second SKLOIS Conference on Information Security and Cryptology 2006 (Inscrypt, formerly CISC) was organized by the State Key Laboratory of Inf- mation Security of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This international conf- ence was held in Beijing, China and was sponsored by the Institute of Software, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundations of China. The c- ference proceedings, with contributed papers, are published by Springer in this volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). The research areas covered by Inscrypt have been gaining increased visibility recently since modern computing and communication infrastructures and app- cations require increased security, trust and safety. Indeed important fundam- tal, experimental and applied work has been done in wide areasof cryptography and information security research in recent years. Accordingly, the program of Inscrypt 2006 covered numerous ?elds of research within these areas. The International Program Committee of the conference received a total of 225 submissions, from which only 23 submissions were selected for presentation at the regular papers track and are part of this volume. In addition to this track, the conference also hosted a short paper track of 13 presentations that were carefully selected as well. All anonymous submissions were reviewed by experts in the relevant areas and based on their ranking, technical remarks and strict selection criteria the papers were selected to the various tracks.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you all to the proceedings of the 2nd InternationalSymposiumonVisualComputing(ISVC2006)heldinLakeTahoe. Followinga successfulmeeting lastyear, wewitnesseda muchstrongerandmore productive event this year. ISVC o?ers a common umbrella for the four main areas of visual computing including vision, graphics, visualization, and virtual reality. Its goal is to provide a forum for researchers, scientists, engineers and practitionersthroughouttheworldtopresenttheirlatestresearch?ndings, ideas, developments and applications in the broader area of visual computing. This year, the program consisted of 13 oral sessions, one poster session, ten special tracks, and six keynote presentations. The response to the call for – pers was very strong. We received more than twice the papers received last year. Speci?cally, we received over 280 submissions for the main symposium from which we accepted 65 papers for oral presentation (23% acceptance) and 56 papers for poster presentation (20% acceptance). Special track papers were solicited separately through the Organizing and Program Committees of each track. A total of 57 papers were accepted for presentation in the special tracks. All papers were reviewed with an emphasis on potential to contribute to the state of the art in the ?eld. Selection criteria included accuracy and originality of ideas, clarity and signi?cance of results, and presentation quality. The review process was quite rigorous, involving two to three independent blind reviews followed by several days of discussion. During the discussion period we tried to correct anomalies and errors that might have existed in the initial reviews.

Persuasive technology is the general class of technologies that purposefully apply psychological principles of persuasion – principles of credibility, trust, reciprocity, authority and the like – in interactive media, in the service of changing their users’ attitudes and behavior. Only one year ago, in 2006, the first international conference in this area, PERSUASIVE 2006 was hosted in Eindhoven. The conference was entirely geared towards communicating the progress made in the area of persuasive technology, and towards presenting recent results in theory, design, technology and evaluation. It brought together a wide range of research fields, including social psychology, HCI, computer science, industrial design, engineering, game design, communication science, and human factors, and the formula worked: plans for a follow-up were made immediately upon its conclusion. PERSUASIVE 2007, the second international conference on persuasive technology, was hosted by Stanford University, April 26-27. The program featured a large number of presentations, both oral and in poster format, on new findings, new conceptualizations and designs, and new reflections on persuasion through technology. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, this conference featured the best new insights into how video games, mobile phone applications, and Web sites can be designed to motivate and influence people.
