Atomic and Nuclear Clusters Proceedings of the Second International Conference at Santorini, Greece, June 28 – July 2, 1993

Free Download Atomic and Nuclear Clusters: Proceedings of the Second International Conference at Santorini, Greece, June 28 – July 2, 1993 By Professor G. S. Anagnostatos, Professor Dr. W. von Oertzen (eds.)
1995 | 317 Pages | ISBN: 3642796982 | PDF | 20 MB
The subject of clusters – small aggregates of particles – is a topic of primary interest in both atomic and nuclear physics, and also in other fields such as the quark-structures of baryons and cosmology. The interplay between atomic and nuclear physics is a particularly fascinating one because many concepts are common to both fields (quantal effects, shells, geometric structures, collective modes, fission, etc.). These proceedings contain a wealth of papers illustrating the interdisciplinary role of cluster physics. Some of them are reprinted from Zeitschrift für Physik A and D.

Analytical Methods in Rotor Dynamics Second Edition

Free Download Analytical Methods in Rotor Dynamics: Second Edition By Andrew D. Dimarogonas, Stefanos A. Paipetis, Thomas G. Chondros (auth.)
2013 | 274 Pages | ISBN: 9400759045 | PDF | 6 MB
The design and construction of rotating machinery operating at supercritical speeds was, in the 1920s, an event of revolutionary importance for the then new branch of dynamics known as rotor dynamics. In the 1960s, another revolution occurred: In less than a decade, imposed by operational and economic needs, an increase in the power of turbomachinery by one order of magnitude took place. Dynamic analysis of complex rotor forms became a necessity, while the importance of approximate methods for dynamic analysis was stressed. Finally, the emergence of fracture mechanics, as a new branch of applied mechanics, provided analytical tools to investigate crack influence on the dynamic behavior of rotors. The scope of this book is based on all these developments. No topics related to the well-known classical problems are included, rather the book deals exclusively with modern high-power turbomachinery.

Migrant Penalties in Educational Achievement Second-generation Immigrants in Western Europe

Free Download Camilla Borgna, "Migrant Penalties in Educational Achievement: Second-generation Immigrants in Western Europe "
English | ISBN: 9462981345 | 2017 | 208 pages | PDF | 1205 KB
The integration of second-generation immigrants has proved to be a major challenge for Europe in recent years. Though these people are born in their host nations, they often experience worse social and economic outcomes than other citizens. This volume focuses on one particular, important challenge: the less successful educational outcomes of second-generation migrants. Looking at data from seventeen European nations, Camilla Borgna shows that migrant penalties in educational achievement exist in each one-but that, unexpectedly, the penalties tend to be greater in countries in which socio-economic inequalities in education are generally more modest, a finding that should prompt reconsideration of a number of policy approaches.

Open Borders – Second Edition The Case Against Immigration Controls

Free Download Teresa Hayter, "Open Borders – Second Edition: The Case Against Immigration Controls"
English | 2004 | pages: 226 | ISBN: 0745322441, 0745315429 | PDF | 0,9 mb
In this new edition of Open Borders, Teresa Hayter assesses the impact of the increasing severity of border controls since they were first introduced and makes the controversial case for their abolition. Hayter focuses on postwar immigration controls, especially the use of such controls against the peoples of former European colonies and East Europeans, and their effects on asylum seekers. She examines the recent history of European coordination of border controls and the notion of ‘Fortress Europe’. Hayter argues that the existence of controls leads to great suffering and abuse of human rights, and that immigration controls are racist and help legitimate racism. She demonstrates that immigration controls have actually had a limited impact on controlling numbers. To illustrate her arguments, she draws on empirical material, especially from Britain in the 1980s and 1990s, relating in particular to the use of detention, arbitrary decision-making and the denial of benefits. She compares British government policies with policies elsewhere in Europe and calls for the free movement of people and the abolition of border controls. The new edition brings this seminal work up to date with a lengthy preface exploring how the practices of the British government over the past few years has continued the process Hayter outlines in the main text – of abusive and irrational border controls and the criminalisation of entire communities. This second edition also updates the bibliography and list of campaigning groups, and ends with a new manifesto for a world without borders, declaring ‘no one is illegal!’

Complete Second Order Linear Differential Equations in Hilbert Spaces

Free Download Complete Second Order Linear Differential Equations in Hilbert Spaces By Alexander Ya. Shklyar (auth.)
1996 | 220 Pages | ISBN: 3034899408 | PDF | 18 MB
Incomplete second order linear differential equations in Banach spaces as well as first order equations have become a classical part of functional analysis. This monograph is an attempt to present a unified systematic theory of second order equations y" (t) + Ay’ (t) + By (t) = 0 including well-posedness of the Cauchy problem as well as the Dirichlet and Neumann problems. Exhaustive yet clear answers to all posed questions are given. Special emphasis is placed on new surprising effects arising for complete second order equations which do not take place for first order and incomplete second order equations. For this purpose, some new results in the spectral theory of pairs of operators and the boundary behavior of integral transforms have been developed. The book serves as a self-contained introductory course and a reference book on this subject for undergraduate and post- graduate students and research mathematicians in analysis. Moreover, users will welcome having a comprehensive study of the equations at hand, and it gives insight into the theory of complete second order linear differential equations in a general context – a theory which is far from being fully understood.
