English | 2024 | ISBN: 3031660463 | 509 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 6 MB
This book connects decentralization technologies with the world of finance and financial services. Increasingly, the financial sector is data-driven, with tensions arising between technical innovations and regulators’ and consumers’ expectations. Fundamentally, financial markets are competitive data markets. The authors of this edited book first identify where changes in the regulatory and business regime give rise to novel requirements and needs for these data markets. Next, the authors introduce three key decentralization technologies -decentralized digital identities, distributed ledger technologies, and federated learning. They discuss privacy-enhancing technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs and illustrate the demands of practical applications. The authors further provide explicit application examples to illustrate where and how these decentralization technologies allow to reflect business, customer, and regulatory requirements amid competitive markets. The volume concludes with an outlook on governance and the sustainability implications of decentralization.

Free Download Working with Data in the Public Sector: From Fear to Enthusiasm
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1032803029 | 222 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 8.4 MB
Authors Anne McIntyre-Lahner and Ronald Schack explore different types and degrees of data fear (a data fear/data comfort continuum) and provide a toolbox of fear-fighting techniques, including methods of dealing with data fear "in the moment," methods of mitigating data fear related to using, sharing, and reporting data, and demonstrating how many common data tasks need not be scary. They further offer a self-assessment instrument and process to help individuals assess their level of data fear/comfort, identifying which specific dimensions of data fear/comfort may be most problematic at both the individual and organizational level. The book examines how individual data fear can "infect" organizations, collaboratives, and communities and how to "bake in" data fear prevention in one’s efforts to create and sustain a data-informed culture.

Data Envelopment Analysis in the Service Sector

Free Download Data Envelopment Analysis in the Service Sector By Lawrence M. Seiford (auth.), Georg Westermann (eds.)
1999 | 336 Pages | ISBN: 3824470128 | PDF | 5 MB
The public and private service sector shows some specificity that classical measurement and benchmarking instruments normally fail to serve. Missing prices for public goods or distinct firm-specific solutions to the same problem – and, thus, different production techniques – are only two of the frequently arising problems. This volume emphasizes the possibilities to adjust and develop the methodology of Data Envelopment Analysis in order to meet the requirements of the service sector and highlights the widespread application of the instrument – especially to problems the orthodox methods fail to solve or to emerging fields within the service sector.

Impacts of Megaconferences on the Water Sector

Free Download Impacts of Megaconferences on the Water Sector By Asit K. Biswas (auth.), Asit K. Biswas, Cecilia Tortajada (eds.)
2009 | 276 Pages | ISBN: 3540372237 | PDF | 4 MB
Since the late 1990s, megaconferences in the water-related sectors have become regular occurrences. The latest one, in Mexico City, in March 2006, is estimated to have cost a total of $205 million, and had 19,000+ participants. In spite of such huge costs and organizational efforts, not a single water megaconference has ever been seriously evaluated in terms of its overall impacts on the water sector. This book is the first pioneering study to assess the impacts of the megaconferences on water policies, programs and projects at global, regional and national levels. The results are bleak. The evaluation indicated that except for the UN Water Conference, held in Argentina in 1977, the impacts of the subsequent megaconferences have been at best marginal in terms of knowledge generation and application, poverty alleviation, environmental conservation and /or increasing availability of investments funds for the water sector.
