Small Business Innovation, Problems and Strategy

Free Download John E. Michaels, "Small Business: Innovation, Problems and Strategy"
English | ISBN: 1606921134 | 2009 | 175 pages | PDF | 10 MB
Innovation is a fundamental determinant of value creation in business companies and can also become a key to successful economic growth. The innovative process and innovative effort of companies are explored and evaluated in this book. Some of the alternative strategies available to the entrepreneur are also examined, most notably the proposition that a selective approach to growth opportunities can be an effective remedy to the familiar "limited sources of financing" constraint. This book suggests transforming a model of tax compliance to a model of compliance in organisations. The model considers the power of authorities and trust in authorities as the main moderators of compliance. Procedural fairness and responsive regulation are discussed as ways of increasing trust in organisations. The start-up of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is attracting considerable attention due to their potential contribution to innovation. Using firm-level, industry-level, and regional data, this book examines the determinants of R&D investment by start-up firms in the manufacturing sector. The common features of the development of SMEs are also discussed. Business development services (BDSs) have the potential to provide significant assistance to developing countries, but the market for BDS products is underdeveloped. Thus, this book explores the different strategies to build capacity not to only disseminate transferred know-how, but also to localise know-how development. Finally, this book reviews some historical, interspersed with current unpublished, examples of how the commercialisation gap between science and business can be closed to the benefit of each. How the scientific/academic community can derive maximum benefits from collaborating with business is also discussed.

Entrepreneurship and small businesses are the basis for economic development all over the world. The systemic social and economic changes which underlined the early stage of transition created the conditions for the development of entrepreneurship and small firms. This book employs various strands of theories of entrepreneurship, theories of growth of the firm and the new institutional economics approach in order to develop a more integrated framework for the investigation of the determinants of entrepreneurial activity and small business growth in the transition and post-conflict economy of Kosova.

Writing a Small Nation’s Past Wales in Comparative Perspective, 1850-1950

Free Download Neil Evans, "Writing a Small Nation’s Past: Wales in Comparative Perspective, 1850-1950"
English | ISBN: 1138707252 | 2017 | 406 pages | EPUB | 902 KB
This is the first volume to examine how the history of Wales was written in a period that saw the emergence of professional historiography, largely focused on the nation, across Europe and in the United States. It thus sets Wales in the context of recent work on national history writing in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and, more particularly, offers a Welsh perspective on the ways in which history was written in small, mainly stateless, nations. The comparative dimension is fundamental to the volume’s aim, highlighting what was distinctive about Welsh historical writing and showing how the Welsh experience mirrors and illuminates broader historiographical developments. The book begins with an introduction that uses the concept of historical culture as a way of exploring the different strands of historiography covered in the collection, providing orientation to the chapters that follow. These are divided into four sections: ‘Contexts and Backgrounds’, ‘Amateurs and Popularizers’, ‘Creating Academic Disciplines’, and ‘Comparative Perspectives’. All these themes are then drawn together in the conclusion to examine how far Welsh historians exemplify widespread trends in the writing of national history, and thereby point-up common themes that emerge from the volume and clarify its broader significance for students of historiography.

Unified Symmetry In the Small and in the Large

Free Download Unified Symmetry: In the Small and in the Large By Behram N. Kursunoglu (auth.), Behram N. Kursunoglu, Stephen Mintz, Arnold Perlmutter (eds.)
1995 | 255 Pages | ISBN: 1461357535 | PDF | 8 MB
The twenty-second Coral Gables conference "UNIFIED SYMMETRY: In the Small and In the Large" continued with the efforts to unify the small and the large. The information gathered with the Huble telescope has in part, in the absence of the SCC , provided a basis for the physicists to unify cosmology and elementary particle physics. The congressional cancellation of the biggest experimental project on the frontiers of physics should not be regarded as an insurmountable obstacle to progress in theoretical physics. The physicists’ rise to prominence was mostly reached through their creation of the nuclear era. The post cold war era has somewhat reduced the political, military, and, in part, the social role of the physicist. Some in the administration and the Congress would like physicists to focus on the directly utilitarian aspects of science. Thus, some people do not realize that this regimentation of science would inhibit the creativity. The contributions of solid state physics research to the advancement of technology is the result of physics freely pursued independently of its applications. Modern Physics beginning with Newton’s theory of gravity has enabled us to create the space age, to contribute to various technologies, and to impact on our technological modus vivendi.
