Standards play a prominent role in systems characterized by interaction. In information systems, standards provide for compatibility and are a prerequisite for collaboration benefits. More generally speaking, standards constitute networks. In this work, a standardization framework based on an analysis of deficiencies of network effect theory and a game theoretic network equilibrium analysis is developed. Fundamental determinants of diffusion processes in networks (e.g. network topology, agent size, installed base) are identified and incorporated into a computer-based simulation model. As a result, typical network behaviour (specific diffusion patterns) can be explained and many findings from traditional network effect theory can be described as special cases of the model at particular parameter constellations (e.g. low price, high density). On this basis, solution strategies for standardization problems are developed, and a methodological path towards a unified theory of networks is proposed. "… a very important contribution to the economics of standardization, and the results make the book a must for everyone working in the field." (International Journal of IT Standards and Standardization Research)

Neurosurgical Handovers and Standards for Emergency Care

Free Download Neurosurgical Handovers and Standards for Emergency Care
English | 2024 | ISBN: 100954845X | 24 Pages | PDF (True) | 2 MB
One of the biggest challenges as a neurosurgical trainee is to master the handover. This requires developing an organisational efficiency to concisely relay relevant patient information to a suitably qualified person to execute a given task. A trainee can work extremely hard during an on call, making suitable decisions, implementing previous plans to perfection and covering slack in a team. But if the presentation of this work is unclear then it undoes a lot of that hard work and generates an impression of a trainee being disorganised. Success in a handover requires an understanding of whom you are talking to, what you are saying, how you are saying it and if the way you are communicating gains and maintains interest. Above all a handover should ensure the smooth continuity of care of a patient.

The fast-growing field of intelligent transport systems (ITS) spans everything from freight transport and traffic management to in-vehicle services like driver alert. This practical book is the first unifying reference that provides exhaustive coverage of existing and developing standards that support ITS services and their interoperability. The book reviews best practices and provides up-to-the-minute listings for standards developing organizations (SDOs) at both national and international levels. Practitioners get up-to-the-minute details on ITS standards governing everything from on-board communications and vehicle ID, to public travel security and route guidance services. Moreover, the book presents strategies for successfully integrating standards in ITS planning, deployment, and operations.
