English | ISBN: 9811262780 | 2023 | 256 pages | PDF | 11 MB
The present monograph on stochastic Komatu-Loewner evolutions (SKLEs) provides the first systematic extension of the Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) theory from a simply connected planar domain to multiply connected domains by using the Brownian motion with darning (BMD) that has arisen in a recent study of the boundary theory of symmetric Markov processes. This volume is presented in an accessible manner for the interested researchers and graduate students. It also brings new insights into SLEs as special cases of SKLEs. Mathematically, it can be viewed as a powerful application of stochastic analysis via BMDs to complex analysis.

This book serves as an advanced text for a graduate course on stochastic algorithms for the students of probability and statistics, engineering, economics and machine learning. This second edition gives a comprehensive treatment of stochastic approximation algorithms based on the ordinary differential equation (ODE) approach which analyses the algorithm in terms of a limiting ODE. It has a streamlined treatment of the classical convergence analysis and includes several recent developments such as concentration bounds, avoidance of traps, stability tests, distributed and asynchronous schemes, multiple time scales, general noise models, etc., and a category-wise exposition of many important applications. It is also a useful reference for researchers and practitioners in the field.

Stochastic Processes and Related Topics

Free Download Stochastic Processes and Related Topics: In Memory of Stamatis Cambanis 1943-1995 by Ioannis Karatzas, Balram S. Rajput, Murad S. Taqqu
English | PDF | 1998 | 391 Pages | ISBN : 0817639985 | 30.8 MB
In the last twenty years extensive research has been devoted to a better understanding of the stable and other closely related infinitely divisible mod els. Stamatis Cambanis, a distinguished educator and researcher, played a special leadership role in the development of these research efforts, particu larly related to stable processes from the early seventies until his untimely death in April ’95. This commemorative volume consists of a collection of research articles devoted to reviewing the state of the art of this and other rapidly developing research and to explore new directions of research in these fields. The volume is a tribute to the Life and Work of Stamatis by his students, friends, and colleagues whose personal and professional lives he has deeply touched through his generous insights and dedication to his profession. Before the idea of this volume was conceived, two conferences were held in the memory of Stamatis. The first was organized by the University of Athens and the Athens University of Economics and was held in Athens during December 18-19, 1995. The second was a significant part of a Spe cial IMS meeting held at the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during October 17-19, 1996. It is the selfless effort of sev eral people that brought about these conferences. We believe that this is an appropriate place to acknowledge their effort; and on behalf of all the participants, we extend sincere thanks to all these persons.

Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics

Free Download Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics: ANESTOC ’98 Proceedings of the Third International Workshop by Rolando Rebolledo
English | PDF | 2000 | 168 Pages | ISBN : 0817641858 | 11.1 MB
The seminar on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics started in 1984 at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago and has been an on going research activity. Since 1995, the group has organized international workshops as a way of promoting a broader dialogue among experts in the areas of classical and quantum stochastic analysis, mathematical physics and physics. This volume, consisting primarily of contributions to the Third Inter national Workshop on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics (in Spanish ANESTOC), held in Santiago, Chile, in October 1998, focuses on an analysis of quantum dynamics and related problems in probability the ory. Various articles investigate quantum dynamical semigroups and new results on q-deformed oscillator algebras, while others examine the appli cation of classical stochastic processes in quantum modeling. As in previous workshops, the topic of quantum flows and semigroups occupied an important place. In her paper, R. Carbone uses a spectral type analysis to obtain exponential rates of convergence towards the equilibrium of a quantum dynamical semigroup in the £2 sense. The method is illus trated with a quantum extension of a classical birth and death process. Quantum extensions of classical Markov processes lead to subtle problems of domains. This is in particular illustrated by F. Fagnola, who presents a pathological example of a semigroup for which the largest * -subalgebra (of the von Neumann algebra of bounded linear operators of £2 (lR+, IC)), con tained in the domain of its infinitesimal generator, is not a-weakly dense.

The seminar on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics of the Ca tholic University of Chile, started in Santiago in 1984, has being followed and enlarged since 1995 by a series of international workshops aimed at pro moting a wide-spectrum dialogue between experts on the fields of classical and quantum stochastic analysis, mathematical physics, and physics. This volume collects most of the contributions to the Fourth Interna tional Workshop on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics (whose Spanish abbreviation is "ANESTOC"; in English, "STAMP"), held in San tiago, Chile, from January 5 to 11, 2000. The workshop style stimulated a vivid exchange of ideas which finally led to a number of written con tributions which I am glad to introduce here. However, we are currently submitted to a sort of invasion of proceedings books, and we do not want to increase our own shelves with a new one of the like. On the other hand, the editors of conference proceedings have to use different exhausting and com pulsive strategies to persuade authors to write and provide texts in time, a task which terrifies us. As a result, this volume is aimed at smoothly start ing a new kind of publication. What we would like to have is a collection of books organized like our seminar.

Real and Stochastic Analysis New Perspectives

Free Download Real and Stochastic Analysis: New Perspectives by M. M. Rao
English | PDF | 2004 | 411 Pages | ISBN : 081764332X | 45.9 MB
As in the case of the two previous volumes published in 1986 and 1997, the purpose of this monograph is to focus the interplay between real (functional) analysis and stochastic analysis show their mutual benefits and advance the subjects. The presentation of each article, given as a chapter, is in a research-expository style covering the respective topics in depth. In fact, most of the details are included so that each work is essentially self contained and thus will be of use both for advanced graduate students and other researchers interested in the areas considered. Moreover, numerous new problems for future research are suggested in each chapter. The presented articles contain a substantial number of new results as well as unified and simplified accounts of previously known ones. A large part of the material cov ered is on stochastic differential equations on various structures, together with some applications. Although Brownian motion plays a key role, (semi-) martingale theory is important for a considerable extent. Moreover, noncommutative analysis and probabil ity have a prominent role in some chapters, with new ideas and results. A more detailed outline of each of the articles appears in the introduction and outline to assist readers in selecting and starting their work. All chapters have been reviewed.

Variational Convergence and Stochastic Homogenization of Nonlinear Reaction-Diffusion Problems

Free Download Variational Convergence and Stochastic Homogenization of Nonlinear Reaction-Diffusion Problems by Omar Anza Hafsa, Jean-Philippe Mandallena, Gerard Michaille
English | July 20, 2022 | ISBN: 9811258481 | 320 pages | MOBI | 16 Mb
A substantial number of problems in physics, chemical physics, and biology, are modeled through reaction-diffusion equations to describe temperature distribution or chemical substance concentration. For problems arising from ecology, sociology, or population dynamics, they describe the density of some populations or species. In this book the state variable is a concentration, or a density according to the cases. The reaction function may be complex and include time delays terms that model various situations involving maturation periods, resource regeneration times, or incubation periods. The dynamics may occur in heterogeneous media and may depend upon a small or large parameter, as well as the reaction term. From a purely formal perspective, these parameters are indexed by n. Therefore, reaction-diffusion equations give rise to sequences of Cauchy problems. The first part of the book is devoted to the convergence of these sequences in a sense made precise in the book. The second part is dedicated to the specific case when the reaction-diffusion problems depend on a small parameter ∊ₙ intended to tend towards 0. This parameter accounts for the size of small spatial and randomly distributed heterogeneities. The convergence results obtained in the first part, with additionally some probabilistic tools, are applied to this specific situation. The limit problems are illustrated through biological invasion, food-limited or prey-predator models where the interplay between environment heterogeneities in the individual evolution of propagation species plays an essential role. They provide a description in terms of deterministic and homogeneous reaction-diffusion equations, for which numerical schemes are possible.

This book presents recent findings and results concerning the solutions of especially finite state-space Markov decision problems and determining Nash equilibria for related stochastic games with average and total expected discounted reward payoffs. In addition, it focuses on a new class of stochastic games: stochastic positional games that extend and generalize the classic deterministic positional games. It presents new algorithmic results on the suitable implementation of quasi-monotonic programming techniques. Moreover, the book presents applications of positional games within a class of multi-objective discrete control problems and hierarchical control problems on networks.
