Electronic Structure of Rare-Earth Nickelates from First-Principles

Free Download Electronic Structure of Rare-Earth Nickelates from First-Principles by Harrison LaBollita
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 109 Pages | ISBN : 3031715470 | 40 MB
This thesis demonstrates the value of theoretical approaches in the discovery of new superconducting materials. It reports a detailed study of the recently discovered nickel-oxide (nickelate) superconductors using multiple first-principles computational tools, from density functional theory to dynamical mean field theory. In the context of superconductivity, discoveries have generally been linked to serendipitous experimental discovery; this thesis reports some of the few examples of predictions of new superconductors that have later been realized in practice, a prime example of the significance of the methodology it expounds. Overall, it represents a seminal systematic work in the electronic structure theory of the emergent field of nickelate superconductivity.

Dispersity, Structure and Phase Changes of Proteins and Bio Agglomerates in Biotechnological Processes

Free Download Dispersity, Structure and Phase Changes of Proteins and Bio Agglomerates in Biotechnological Processes by Arno Kwade, Ingo Kampen
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 548 Pages | ISBN : 3031631633 | 167.4 MB
This book serves as a comprehensive summary of the priority program SPP 1934, which focused on understanding the dispersity, structure, and phase changes of proteins and bio-agglomerates in biotechnological processes. Through contributions from various research groups, the program explored how sensitive proteins and bio-agglomerates are affected by the process environment during fermentation, downstream processing, and formulation. It investigated these effects across three size scales: microscale, encompassing single proteins, clusters, crystals, and virus-like particles; mesoscale, focusing on cells and cell clusters; and macroscale, examining overall process dynamics. The main objective was to enhance biotechnological process chains by elucidating the mechanical, thermal, and chemical stresses that impact protein and bio-agglomerate structures. By gaining insights into these stressors, the program aimed to enable precise control measures to mitigate denaturation and unfavorable growth of proteins and cells. This compilation seeks to contribute to the optimization of biotechnological processes, facilitating advancements in various industries.

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions

Free Download The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn, Dennis Holland, Audible Studios
English | January 12, 2016 | ISBN: B002AHYJQC | 10 hours and 14 minutes | M4B 64 Kbps | 336 Mb
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is a landmark in intellectual history which has attracted attention far beyond its own immediate field. It is written with a combination of depth and clarity that make it an almost unbroken series of aphorisms. Its author, Thomas S. Kuhn, wastes little time on demolishing the logical empiricist view of science as an objective progression toward the truth. Instead he erects from ground up a structure in which science is seen to be heavily influenced by nonrational procedures, and in which new theories are viewed as being more complex than those they usurp but not as standing any closer to the truth. Science is not the steady, cumulative acquisition of knowledge that is portrayed in the textbooks. Rather, it is a series of peaceful interludes punctuated by intellectually violent revolutions . . . in each of which one conceptual world view is replaced by another.

Fluid-Structure-Sound Interactions and Control

Free Download Fluid-Structure-Sound Interactions and Control: Proceedings of the 6th Symposium on Fluid-Structure-Sound Interactions and Control (FSSIC 2023) by Daegyoum Kim, Kyung Chun Kim, Yu Zhou, Lixi Huang
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 272 Pages | ISBN : 9819762103 | 86.2 MB
This proceedings book focuses on advances in theory, experiments and numerical simulations of fluid-structure-sound interactions related to turbulence, flow-induced vibration, noise and their control. This includes important practical areas of interaction such as vehicle aerodynamics, marine and civil engineering, nuclear reactors and biomedicine. One of the special features of this book is that it integrates new emerging fields with the study of fluid-structure-sound interactions, which is not common practice but scientifically very helpful in understanding, simulating and controlling fluid-structure-sound interaction systems. This provides a broader view of the discipline from which readers will benefit greatly.
