Conceptual Modeling for Traditional and Spatio-Temporal Applications The MADS Approach

Free Download Conceptual Modeling for Traditional and Spatio-Temporal Applications: The MADS Approach By Christine Parent, Stefano Spaccapietra, Esteban Zimányi (auth.)
2006 | 466 Pages | ISBN: 3540301534 | PDF | 3 MB
From environmental management to land planning and geo-marketing, the number of application domains that may greatly benefit from using data enriched with spatio-temporal features is expanding very rapidly. Unfortunately, development of new spatio-temporal applications is hampered by the lack of conceptual design methods suited to cope with the additional complexity of spatio-temporal data. This complexity is obviously due to the particular semantics of space and time, but also to the need for multiple representations of the same reality to address the diversity of requirements from highly heterogeneous user communities. Conceptual design methods are also needed to facilitate the exchange and reuse of existing data sets, a must in geographical data management due to the high collection costs of the data. Yet, current practice in areas like geographical information systems or moving objects databases does not include conceptual design methods very well, if at all. This book shows that a conceptual design approach for spatio-temporal databases is both feasible and easy to apprehend. While providing a firm basis through extensive discussion of traditional data modeling concepts, the major focus of the book is on modeling spatial and temporal information. Parent, Spaccapietra and Zimányi provide a detailed and comprehensive description of an approach that fills the gap between application conceptual requirements and system capabilities, covering both data modeling and data manipulation features. The ideas presented summarize several years of research on the characteristics and description of space, time, and perception. In addition to the authors’ own data modeling approach, MADS (Modeling of Application Data with Spatio-temporal features), the book also surveys alternative data models and approaches (from industry and academia) that target support of spatio-temporal modeling. The reader will acquire intimate knowledge of both the traditional and innovative features that form a consistent data modeling approach. Visual notations and examples are employed extensively to illustrate the use of the various constructs. Therefore, this book is of major importance and interest to advanced professionals, researchers, and graduate or post-graduate students in the areas of spatio-temporal databases and geographical information systems. "For anyone thinking of doing research in this field, or who is developing a system based on spatio-temporal data, this text is essential reading." (Mike Worboys, U Maine, Orono, ME, USA)"The high-level semantic model presented and validated in this book provides essential guidance to researchers and implementers when improving the capabilities of data systems to serve the actual needs of applications and their users in the temporal and spatial domains that are so prevalent today." (Gio Wiederhold, Stanford U, CA, USA)

Temporal Horizons and Strategic Decisions in U.S.-China Relations Between Instant and Infinite

Free Download Daniel Joseph Tauss, "Temporal Horizons and Strategic Decisions in U.S.-China Relations: Between Instant and Infinite"
English | ISBN: 0739188275 | 2015 | 260 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Using an interdisciplinary social-science approach, Temporal Horizons and Strategic Decisions in US-China Relations: Between Instant and Infinite takes on the challenge of understanding the foreign policy decision process through the lens of the temporal horizon. A temporal horizon is the distance into the future a decision-maker prioritizes when evaluating outcomes and considering possibilities. By looking at a number of recent key moments of US-China relations that have immediate, short-term, long term, and far-reaching implications, the book considers which are predominant in the policy process. Looking at the role of time as a factor in the decision-making process is not new to political science, but this book attempts to break down and articulate the process by looking at a range of specific time frames. The book places special attention on future considerations in a variety of ways, combining the insights of psychology, economics, and future studies to consider political science in a new manner.

Time Mastery How Temporal Intelligence Will Make You a Stronger, More Effective Leader

English | 2005 | pages: 225 | ISBN: 0814408494, 0814410642 | PDF | 0,9 mb
To be most effective, leaders must move beyond time management to time mastery. Time managers are reliant on clocks and calendars; time masters develop an intuitive sense of timing. Time managers see time as a fixed, rigid constant; time masters view it as relative and malleable. Time masters have what John Clemens and Scott Dalrymple call the critical skill of "temporal intelligence."

Dreamscapes of Time Exploring Temporal Dilation Dream

Free Download Dreamscapes of Time: Exploring Temporal Dilation Dream by Shivam Goel
English | July 2, 2024 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0D8Q2C9P4 | 67 pages | EPUB | 0.34 Mb
"Dreamscapes of Time" offers a compelling exploration into one of the most intriguing aspects of human consciousness: the perception of time during dreaming. This insightful book delves into the unique state of consciousness where perception and experience diverge significantly from waking reality, focusing particularly on the phenomenon of time dilation. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it examines how subjective time in dreams can appear vastly different from objective time, providing a fascinating journey into the fluidity and elasticity of temporal experience within the dream state.

Auditory Processing Of Temporal Fine Structure

Free Download Auditory Processing Of Temporal Fine Structure: Effects Of Age And Hearing Loss
English | 2014 | ISBN: 9814579653 | 196 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 9.3 MB
The book is concerned with changes in the perception of sound that are associated with hearing loss and aging. Hearing loss affects about 7% of the population in developed countries, and the proportion is increasing as the average age of the population increases. The audiogram is the most widely used diagnostic tool in audiology clinics around the world. The audiogram involves measuring the threshold for detecting sounds of different frequencies. Sometimes the audiogram is the only diagnostic tool that is used. However, hearing problems are not completely characterized by the audiogram. Two individuals with similar audiograms may show very different abilities in the detection and discrimination of sounds at above-threshold levels. Also, a person may have hearing difficulties despite having an audiogram that is within the range conventionally considered as ‘normal’. One factor that may influence the discrimination of sounds, especially the ability to understand speech in background sounds, is sensitivity to temporal fine structure (TFS).

Spatio-Temporal Modeling and Device Optimization of Passively Mode-Locked Semiconductor Lasers

Free Download Stefan Meinecke, "Spatio-Temporal Modeling and Device Optimization of Passively Mode-Locked Semiconductor Lasers "
English | ISBN: 3030962474 | 2022 | 269 pages | PDF | 10 MB
This thesis investigates passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers by numerical methods. The understanding and optimization of such devices is crucial to the advancement of technologies such as optical data communication and dual comb spectroscopy. The focus of the thesis is therefore on the development of efficient numerical models, which are able both to perform larger parameter studies and to provide quantitative predictions. Along with that, visualization and evaluation techniques for the rich spatio-temporal laser dynamics are developed; these facilitate the physical interpretation of the observed features.

Predicates and Temporal Arguments

Free Download Predicates and Temporal Arguments By Theodore B. Fernald
2000 | 176 Pages | ISBN: 0195114353 | PDF | 9 MB
A distinction is made in formal semantics between "stage-level predicates," predicates that describe the general state of a noun, and "individual-level predicates," predicates that specify the specific properties of a noun. Fernald investigates various contexts in which this distinction is traditionally said to come into play. His aim is to show that the effects displayed are not uniform, and that the differences between the analyses proposed in the literature arise from the authors considering different subsets of data that they take to exemplyify the "core" meaning of the stage/individual distinction. Fernald presents alternatives and extensions that shed light on the limitations of previous theories, as well as making original observations about important aspects of the topic, including coercion, and perceptual reports vs. other phenomena.
