Free Download Standorte, Nachfrageexternalitäten und Preisankündigungen By Dr. Joachim Henkel (auth.)
1997 | 215 Pages | ISBN: 3790810290 | PDF | 8 MB

Narrator: Kirsten Potter, Leon Nixon

A fascinating new history of America, told through the stories of a diverse cast of ten extraordinary-and often overlooked-adventurers, from Sacagawea to Matthew Henson to Sally Ride, who pushed the boundaries of discovery and determined our national destiny. The archetype of the American explorer, a rugged white man, has dominated our popular culture since the late eighteenth century, when Daniel Boone’s autobiography captivated readers with tales of treacherous journeys. But our commonly held ideas about American exploration do not tell the whole story-far from it. The Explorers rediscovers a diverse group of Americans who went to the western frontier and beyond, traversing the farthest reaches of the globe and even penetrating outer space in their endeavor to find the unknown. Many escaped from lives circumscribed by racism, sexism, poverty, and discrimination as they took on great risk in unfamiliar territory.

English | ASIN: B0CXZ9R4CZ | 2024 | 14 hours and 15 minutes | M4B@64 kbps | 409 MB
Author: Corinne Fowler
Narrator: Corinne Fowler

Ten walks through idyllic scenery reveal the countryside’s forgotten links to transatlantic slavery and colonialism-a work of accessible history that will transform our understanding of British landscapes and heritage. The green fields, rugged highlands, and rolling hills of England, Scotland, and Wales are commonly associated with adventure, romance, and seclusion as well as literary figures like Jane Austen and William Wordsworth. But in reality, many of these rural places-with their country houses, lakes, and shorelines-were profoundly changed by British colonial activity. Even hamlets and villages were affected by distant colonial events. Taking ten country walks, author Corinne Fowler explores the unique colonial dimensions of British agriculture, copper-mining, landownership, wool-making, coastal trade, and factory work in cotton mills. One route shows the links between English country houses and Indian colonization.

Ways of Knowing Ten Interdisciplinary Essays

Free Download Mary Lindemann, "Ways of Knowing: Ten Interdisciplinary Essays"
English | 2004 | ISBN: 0391041843 | PDF | pages: 243 | 30.7 mb
"Knowing" itself is a problematic concept and what was once seen as the clear objective of "knowing," that is to discover "truth" or "reality," has become increasingly less certain. This is even more the case when scholars move from the present to examine epistemology in the past. Two fundamental questions arise: What constituted knowledge in the context of early modern Germany and how was knowledge gathered, assembled, organized, deployed, and interpreted? Ways of Knowing seeks to answer these questions. Taking their cues from a range of interdisciplinary perspectives, including art, German literature, social, political, medical, and religious history, the contributors offer readers a rich and insightful portrait of knowing and knowledge in early modern Germany. Investigators look at what people "knew" in early modern Germany and how they "knew" it. Four essays in part one consider how knowledge was created and organized. In part two, six authors examine how knowledge was evaluated and how it functioned, especially in the realms of belief, law, politics, and medicine.
