R-Trees Theory and Applications

Free Download R-Trees: Theory and Applications By Yannis Manolopoulos PhD, Alexandros Nanopoulos PhD, Apostolos N. Papadopoulos PhD, Yannis Theodoridis PhD (auth.)
2006 | 194 Pages | ISBN: 1852339772 | PDF | 2 MB
Nowadays, a significant number of applications require the organization of data elements which contain at least one spatial attribute. Space support in databases poses new challenges in every part of a database management system and the capability of spatial support in the physical layer is considered very important. This has led to the design of spatial access methods to enable the effective and efficient management of spatial objects.R-trees have a simplicity of structure and, together with their resemblance to the B-tree, allow developers to incorporate them easily into existing database management systems for the support of spatial query processing. This book provides an extensive survey of the R-tree evolution, studying the applicability of the structure and its variations to efficient query processing, accurate proposed cost models, and implementation issues like concurrency control and parallelism. Based on the observation that “space is everywhere", the authors anticipate that we are in the beginning of the era of the “ubiquitous R-tree" analogous to the way B-trees were considered 25 years ago. Written for database researchers, designers and programmers as well as graduate students, this comprehensive monograph will be a welcome addition to the field. The book successfully integrates research results of the last 20 years, in a clear and highly readable manner. It is the first book dedicated to R-trees and related access methods, and I believe it will be valuable as a reference to everyone interested in the area.Prof. Timos Sellis, National Technical University of Athens

Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling VI 6th International Conference, PATAT 2006 Brno, Czech Republic, August 30-Septe

Free Download Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling VI: 6th International Conference, PATAT 2006 Brno, Czech Republic, August 30-September 1, 2006 Revised Selected Papers By Barry McCollum (auth.), Edmund K. Burke, Hana Rudová (eds.)
2007 | 418 Pages | ISBN: 3540773444 | PDF | 5 MB
This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Int- national Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT) which was organized in Brno, Czech Republic, from August 30 to September 1 of 2006. The PATAT conferences, which are held every 2 years, bring together – searchers and practitioners from across the broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary research activity in search methodologies for automated timetable generation. This includes university timetabling, school timetabling, personnel rostering, transportation timetabling, sports scheduling. The programme of the 2006 c- ference featured 70 presentations which represented the state of the art in au- mated timetabling: there were four plenary papers, 17 full papers, 41 extended abstracts, and eight system demonstrations. After the conference, all authors were invited to submit their papers to a second round of rigorous refereeing for this volume of selected revised papers. We are pleased to have accepted 25 – pers for this volume. This ?gure represents the highest number of acceptances in a PATAT post-proceedings volume and is a testament to the high standards of the papers that were submitted. The organization of the book is structured around particular problem areas.

Conspiracy Theory in Turkey Politics and Protest in the Age of ‘Post-Truth’

Free Download Julian de Medeiros, "Conspiracy Theory in Turkey: Politics and Protest in the Age of ‘Post-Truth’"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 075560072X, 1788311671 | EPUB | pages: 224 | 0.5 mb
Turkey is witnessing an era of political upheaval. From the Gezi protests in 2013 to the attempted military coup of 2016, the concept of `post-truth’ plays a significant role in Turkish politics today. In the chaos of conspiracy theories, hidden enemies and post-coup purges, the unreal merges with the real, fuelling political repression and anti-government sentiment alike. Julian de Medeiros here analyses the many unfolding challenges of Erdogan’s New Turkey, and shows how a fixedly Turkish-style of `post-truth’ has taken root. Examining the relationship between conspiracy theory and `post-truth’, this book sheds light on the strategies of political paranoia that threaten to undermine the success of Turkey’s democratic model. De Medeiros argues that both the Gezi protests and the failed coup attempt need to be considered alongside the emerging anti-democratic and conspiratorial tendencies of an increasingly authoritarian Turkish government. As Turkish democracy continues to evolve with breath-taking speed and unpredictable outcomes, de Medeiros shows how the rise of paranoid politics in Turkey constitutes part of a global trend towards post-truth narratives. He situates Turkish democracy as subject to a global resurgence of strongman leadership and antagonistic populism. Conspiracy Theory in Turkey presents the very first critical account of the Turkish model of a `post-truth politics’. Through a counter-intuitive analysis of conspiracy theory and paranoid politics the book disentangles the real from the unreal and chronicles the emergence of post-truth in Turkey today.

Until recently, discussions of compromise have been largely absent in political theory. However, political theorists have become increasingly interested in understanding the practice and justification of compromise in politics. This interest is connected to the increased concern with pluralism and disagreement.

The Quantum Theory of Fields, Volume 3 Supersymmetry

Free Download Steven Weinberg, "The Quantum Theory of Fields, Volume 3: Supersymmetry"
English | ISBN: 0521670551 | 2005 | 442 pages | PDF | 24 MB
Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg continues his masterly exposition of quantum field theory. This third volume of The Quantum Theory of Fields presents a self-contained, up-to-date and comprehensive introduction to supersymmetry, a highly active area of theoretical physics that is likely to be at the center of future progress in the physics of elementary particles and gravitation. The text introduces and explains a broad range of topics, including supersymmetric algebras, supersymmetric field theories, extended supersymmetry, supergraphs, nonperturbative results, theories of supersymmetry in higher dimensions, and supergravity. A thorough review is given of the phenomenological implications of supersymmetry, including theories of both gauge and gravitationally-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Also provided is an introduction to mathematical techniques, based on holomorphy and duality, that have proved so fruitful in recent developments. This book contains much material not found in other books on supersymmetry, some of it published here for the first time. Problems are included.
