Fragility and Transcendence Essays on the Thought of Jean-Louis Chrétien

Free Download Fragility and Transcendence: Essays on the Thought of Jean-Louis Chrétien (Reframing Continental Philosophy of Religion) edited by Jeffrey Bloechl
English | October 3, 2023 | ISBN: 1538153211 | True EPUB/PDF | 192 pages | 0.5/1.7 MB
The thought of Jean-Louis Chrétien is most familiar to those who have taken up the theological turn in French phenomenology, yet it defies reduction to either phenomenology or theology, or for that matter spirituality, literature, or Greek thought. Written in beautiful French prose and argued with unsurpassed erudition, Chrétien’s works defy easy interpretation. One nonetheless finds a center of gravity in attempts to define and then elaborate an original account of human being in terms of call and response, from which there follow penetrating studies of language and body, as well as illuminating approaches to a range of themes including temporality, prayer, and religious reading.

Transcendence, the Divine and Nietzsche

Free Download John Mandalios, "Transcendence, the Divine and Nietzsche"
English | ISBN: 1527591999 | 2023 | 205 pages | PDF | 5 MB
This book shows that the contemporary sense of scepticism and distrust displays more than a pernicious nihilism for its prophet Friedrich Nietzsche, who signalled a new spiritualization of nature and life. Understanding transcendence in a different, post-religious fashion, we find that Nietzsche’s philosophy takes us beyond the simple ‘death of God’ scenario. It holds out an affirmative spirit of the heart, of joy in the eternal and continual renewal of our ‘god-creating’ power and will to honour the higher Whole. Readers of philosophy, religion, European metaphysics, theology, humanities and those interested in esoteric thought will find this book innovative and relevant.

Transcendence in Heidegger’s Early Thought Toward Being as Event

Free Download Erik Kuravsky, "Transcendence in Heidegger’s Early Thought: Toward Being as Event"
English | ISBN: 3031412907 | 2023 | 330 pages | EPUB, PDF | 533 KB + 6 MB
This book demonstrates how Heidegger’s departure from ontotheology occurs initially as a preparation for the concept of Dasein’s transcendence and subsequently as its explicit development and overcoming. Dasein’s transcendence is revealed as the foundation for the subsequent concept of Beyng as an Event, which stands in contrast to all ontotheological perspectives that assert a singular a priori foundation of the universe attributed to beings, God, consciousness, or even an independent "process" of Being that doesn’t rely on Dasein. The book illustrates that transcendence is not an attribute of human consciousness or a connection to something external to it. Instead, as a "primal act," transcendence paves the way for a non-representational dwelling in the essence of a historically unfolding Being, a contemplative recollection of the truth of Beyng. Throughout the book, there is a gradual progression towards an understanding of transcendence as an active engagement, wherein we "do" transcendence. This process involves a reconstruction of the ontological significance of action, emphasizing its performative embeddedness in existence and its inseparability from Beyng.

The Transcendence of Desire A Theology of Political Agency

Free Download Tom James, "The Transcendence of Desire: A Theology of Political Agency "
English | ISBN: 3031462262 | 2023 | 262 pages | EPUB, PDF | 462 KB + 4 MB
The "secular age" is not a smooth, untroubled process of accumulation and advance but an uneven and unpredictable series of clashes of interest. Charles Taylor’s "immanent frame" cannot be construed merely as a phenomenon within religion and culture but urgently needs to be understood in political and economic terms-i.e., as a class project. The failure of the secular, vividly displayed in the crumbling legitimacy of global institutions and in the spectacle of police violence, both calls for and makes possible a renewal of political agency. Tom James and David True argue that a theology of the cross has a distinctive potential today: it can pierce the sacred aura of normalcy around the consensual anti-politics of the neoliberal order so that a vision of a world beyond today’s racialized capitalism can emerge. But they contend that we don’t need to forsake the emancipatory aims of modernity nor retreat to local communities. As an alternative to these weak strategies, they offer a constructive and cruciform account of political agency that includes both prophetic resistance and practical wisdom, each embedded in contemporary struggles for freedom that, they argue, embody divine desire for a common world.
