This book offers a comprehensive exploration of the phenomenology surrounding high-energy particle interactions. When particles possess kinetic energy surpassing their rest energy, remarkable phenomena occur. Colliding particles at such high energies can lead to the creation of entirely new particles, illuminating the intricate workings of the universe. Through vivid explanations, this book elucidates the intricate processes that unfold during particle collisions. From proton collisions yielding pions and kaons to electron-positron collisions producing muons, each collision unveils a tapestry of particle interactions. Central to these interactions is the exchange of photons, which come in various forms. Among them are electromagnetic (EM) photons, akin to the light photons that bind electrons to protons within atoms. Then, there are the heavy bosons responsible for beta decay, crucial mediators of weak interactions that govern the decay of particles such as muons and pions. Additionally, there exist photons that bind quarks within protons and neutrons, facilitating the strong force that holds atomic nuclei together. In ‘High Energy Physics: A Level and Transition Approach,’ we embark on a journey through the diverse array of particles and photons that orchestrate these interactions, shedding light on the fundamental forces shaping the fabric of our universe.

English | ISBN: 1107149290 | 2017 | 412 pages | PDF | 106 MB
American Literature in Transition, 2000-2010 illuminates the dynamic transformations that occurred in American literary culture during the first decade of the twenty-first century. The volume is the first major critical collection to address the literature of the 2000s, a decade that saw dramatic changes in digital technology, economics, world affairs, and environmental awareness. Beginning with an introduction that takes stock of the period’s major historical, cultural, and literary movements, the volume features accessible essays on a wide range of topics, including genre fiction, the treatment of social networking in literature, climate change fiction, the ascendency of Amazon and online booksellers, 9/11 literature, finance and literature, and the rise of prestige television. Mapping the literary culture of a decade of promise and threat, American Literature in Transition, 2000-2010 provides an invaluable resource on twenty-first century American literature for general readers, students, and scholars alike.

In Transition Young Adult Literature and Transgender Representation

Free Download Emily Corbett, "In Transition: Young Adult Literature and Transgender Representation "
English | ISBN: 1496852613 | 2024 | 224 pages | PDF | 2 MB
The first book-length work of its kind, In Transition: Young Adult Literature and Transgender Representation examines the shift in the young adult book market towards increased representation of transgender characters and authors. Through a comprehensive exploration of historical conventions, genres, character diversity, and ideologies of trans representation, Emily Corbett traces the roots of trans literature from its beginnings in a cisgender-dominated publishing world to the recent rise in trans creators, characters, and implied readers. Corbett describes how trans-ness was initially perceived as an issue to be overcome by cisgender authors and highlights the ways in which the market has changed.

Anticorruption in Transition 2 Corruption in Enterprise-State Interactions in Europe and Central Asia 1999 – 2002

English | 2004 | pages: 101 | ISBN: 0821358081 | PDF | 1,2 mb
Controlling corruption is an essential part of good governance and poverty reduction, and it poses an enormous challenge for governments all around the world. Anticorruption in Transition 2 analyzes patterns and trends in corruption in business-government interactions in the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. It points to some encouraging signs that the magnitude and negative impact that corruption exerts on businesses may be declining in many countries in the region. It also shows how some types of firms – most notably small private ones – encounter more corruption than others, and it underscores the importance of policy and institutional reforms in achieving long-term success in the fight against corruption. The longer-term sustainability of recent improvements is not certain, however, and the challenges ahead remain formidable.

Turbulence and Transition Modelling Lecture Notes from the ERCOFTACIUTAM Summerschool held in Stockholm, 12-20 June, 1995

Free Download Turbulence and Transition Modelling: Lecture Notes from the ERCOFTAC/IUTAM Summerschool held in Stockholm, 12-20 June, 1995 By M. Hallbäck, D. S. Henningson, A. V. Johansson (auth.), M. Hallbäck, D. S. Henningson, A. V. Johansson, P. H. Alfredsson (eds.)
1996 | 370 Pages | ISBN: 9048147077 | PDF | 11 MB
The aim of this book is to give, within a single volume, an introduction to the fields of turbulence modelling and transition-to-turbulence prediction, and to provide the physical background for today’s modelling approaches in these problem areas as well as giving a flavour of advanced use of prediction methods. Turbulence modelling approaches, ranging from single-point models based on the eddy-viscosity concept and the Reynolds stress transport equations (Chapters 3,4,5), to large-eddy simulation (LES) techniques (Ch. 7), are covered. The foundations of hydrodynamical stability and transition are presented (Ch. 2) along with transition prediction methods based on single-point closures (Ch. 6), LES techniques (Ch. 7) and the parabolized stability equations (Ch. 8). The book addresses engineers and researchers, in industry or academia, who are entering into the fields of turbulence or transition modelling research or need to apply turbulence or transition prediction methods in their work.
