New Trends in Marine and Freshwater Toxins Food and Safety Concerns

Free Download Ana G. Cabado, "New Trends in Marine and Freshwater Toxins: Food and Safety Concerns "
English | ISBN: 1614703248 | 2012 | 403 pages | PDF | 7 MB
Marine and freshwater biotoxins are a well-known problem in food safety, mainly for filter-feeding mollusks and for freshwater aquaculture. This is a challenging matter since, in recent years, toxic algal blooms seems to grow in frequency and duration, leading to longer closure of harvesting areas, disruption in trade, mortality in farmed fish and a growing concern in producers, consumers and health authorities. Unfortunately, in recent years toxins from far latitudes are emerging, leading to new human health problems. Research and exhaustive knowledge of a problem makes it easier to draw a scenario where the best management strategies are gathered. This book combines all if the information related to food-borne illness associated with marine or freshwater biotoxins, the anthropogenic and environmental factors that cause the appearance of toxic episodes and all available analytical procedures for phycotoxins detection.

Computational Mechanics Research Trends

Free Download Hans P. Berger, "Computational Mechanics Research Trends "
English | ISBN: 160876057X | 2010 | 592 pages | PDF | 53 MB
Computational mechanics is the discipline concerned with the use of computational methods to study phenomena governed by the principles of mechanics. Before the emergence of computational science (also called scientific computing) as a "third way" besides theoretical and experimental sciences, computational mechanics was widely considered to be a sub-discipline of applied mechanics. It is now considered to be a sub-discipline within computational science. Computational mechanics (CM) is interdisciplinary. Its three pillars are mathematics, computer science, and mechanics. Computational fluid dynamics, computational thermodynamics, computational electromagnetics, computational solid mechanics are some of the many specialisations within CM. Some examples where computational mechanics have been put to practical use are vehicle crash simulation, petroleum reservoir modelling, biomechanics, glass manufacturing, and semiconductor modelling. In the last century, especially in the second half thereof, computational mechanics has had profound influences on science and technology. Complex systems that would be very difficult or impossible to treat using analytical methods have been successfully simulated using the tools provided by computational mechanics. With the incorporation of quantum, molecular and biological mechanics into new models, CM is poised to play an even bigger role in the future. This new and important book gathers the latest research from around the globe in this dynamic field.

New Trends of Research in Ontologies and Lexical Resources Ideas, Projects, Systems

Free Download New Trends of Research in Ontologies and Lexical Resources: Ideas, Projects, Systems By Alessandro Oltramari, Piek Vossen, Lu Qin (auth.), Alessandro Oltramari, Piek Vossen, Lu Qin, Eduard Hovy (eds.)
2013 | 282 Pages | ISBN: 3642317812 | PDF | 5 MB
In order to exchange knowledge, humans need to share a common lexicon of words as well as to access the world models underlying that lexicon. What is a natural process for a human turns out to be an extremely hard task for a machine: computers can’t represent knowledge as effectively as humans do, which hampers, for example, meaning disambiguation and communication. Applied ontologies and NLP have been developed to face these challenges. Integrating ontologies with (possibly multilingual) lexical resources is an essential requirement to make human language understandable by machines, and also to enable interoperability and computability across information systems and, ultimately, in the Web. This book explores recent advances in the integration of ontologies and lexical resources, including questions such as building the required infrastructure (e.g., the Semantic Web) and different formalisms, methods and platforms for eliciting, analyzing and encoding knowledge contents (e.g., multimedia, emotions, events, etc.). The contributors look towards next-generation technologies, shifting the focus from the state of the art to the future of Ontologies and Lexical Resources. This work will be of interest to research scientists, graduate students, and professionals in the fields of knowledge engineering, computational linguistics, and semantic technologies.
