This book is aimed at researchers and engineers that are involved or interested in the topic of the vibration serviceability of civil infrastructures. This topic, in recent years, has become more and more popular, owing to the ever-increasing living standards and higher demands for structural serviceability. Human activities, strong winds, heavy machines, and adjacent traffic may cause excessive vibration to structures, which needs to be carefully addressed in engineering practice. The articles in this book present the latest research regarding the above-mentioned problem. We invite the readers to learn about all of these novel findings.

Mechanical Vibration Where Do We Stand

”There is always a delightful sense of movement, vibration and life"". Theodore Robinson (1852-1896) "/ have never solved a major mechanical or interpretive problem at the keyboard. I have always solved it in my mind". Jorge Bolet (1914-1990) The idea of this book stems from the realization that scientists, not unlike laymen, should occasionally interrupt their regular work and reflect on the past, to see both the accomplishments and the drawbacks, so as to be able to plan for future research in the "proper" perspective. But an inquisitive reader may ask: Can one really document in any field, let alone mechanical vibrations (whose very name signifies change), ”where do we stand"? Did not a Greek philosopher famously claim that one cannot enter a river twice? Another, on an even more sophisticated note, added that actually it is impossible to enter a river even once! For in the process of entering, both entrant and river change. Likewise, one can argue that it is nearly impossible to answer the question posed in the title of this volume. But experience shows, despite the sage observations of the philosophers, that one does enter a river, lake, sea, or ocean. Likewise, scientists do stop (if not for a minute, for a conference) to reflect on the past, and if not in its detail, then at least in big strokes on various topics presented by the participants; questions by the listeners often change the research direction of the presenter.

Experimental Vibration Analysis for Civil Engineering Structures EVACES 2023 – Volume 1

Free Download Experimental Vibration Analysis for Civil Engineering Structures EVACES 2023 – Volume 1 by Maria Pina Limongelli, Pier Francesco Giordano, Said Quqa, Carmelo Gentile, Alfredo Cigada
English | PDF (True) | 2023 | 800 Pages | ISBN : 303139108X | 163.6 MB
This volume presents peer-reviewed contributions from the 10th International Conference on Experimental Vibration Analysis for Civil Engineering Structures (EVACES), held in Milan, Italy on August 30-September 1, 2023. The event brought together engineers, scientists, researchers, and practitioners, providing a forum for discussing and disseminating the latest developments and achievements in all major aspects of dynamic testing for civil engineering structures, including instrumentation, sources of excitation, data analysis, system identification, monitoring and condition assessment, in-situ and laboratory experiments, codes and standards, and vibration mitigation. The topics included but were not limited to: damage identification and structural health monitoring; testing, sensing and modeling; vibration isolation and control; system and model identification; coupled dynamical systems (including human-structure, vehicle-structure, and soil-structure interaction); and application of advanced techniques involving the Internet of Things, robot, UAV, big data and artificial intelligence.
