The Science of Mental Health, Vol. 10 Fear and Anxiety

Free Download Steven Hyman, "The Science of Mental Health, Vol. 10: Fear and Anxiety"
English | ISBN: 0815337531 | 2001 | 362 pages | PDF | 50 MB
First published in 2001. This is Volume 10 of ten of a series on the science of Mental Health. Originally published in 2001, this study looks at fear and anxiety. During the past decade there has been substantial progress in the understanding of one emotion in particular: fear. There are descriptions of some of the clinical syndromes followed by sections on epidemiology, genetic and environmental risk factors, and natural history (course of illness). Because anxiety disorders so often co-occur with other mental disorders, there is a section devoted to this issue. The volume also includes an article on the evolutionary psychology of anxiety disorders and a long section on brain and behavior that, among other issues, illustrates current attempts to use new insights into fear circuitry in the brain to help investigate the pathogenesis of anxiety disorders. The volume ends with a section on treatment. In some sections there are articles on panic disorder, PTSD, GAD, social anxiety disorder, and, where appropriate, childhood anxiety disorders (which are not always readily separated into their adult forms). Because simple phobias cause relatively little harm or impairment compared with the other anxiety disorders, they are little discussed.

Saint Thomas Aquinas, Vol. 2 Spiritual Master

Free Download Jean Pierre Torrell, Jean-Pierre Torrell, Robert Royal, "Saint Thomas Aquinas, Vol. 2: Spiritual Master"
English | 2003 | ISBN: 0813213169 | PDF | pages: 438 | 1.4 mb
Following his highly acclaimed study of the life and works of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Jean-Pierre Torrell, O.P., continues his masterful work on the great Dominican theologian and brings an immense learning to bear on a subject that most readers have not considered very carefully: Thomas’s spirituality. Aquinas’s intellectual power is evident to anyone who has had even modest exposure to his work. Understanding the spiritual impetus behind that massive achievement, however, requires careful attention to the whole Thomistic corpus and a subtle understanding of several crucial works, particularly Thomas’s sermons and commentaries on Scripture. In this long-awaited sequel to Saint Thomas Aquinas: The Person and His Work, Father Torrell brilliantly lays out the theoretical background to Thomas’s spirituality. He shows that Aquinas’s theology is clearly oriented towards contemplation and is as deeply spiritual as it is doctrinal.

Free Download Radioactivity: Anthropogenic Sources, VOL II
English | 2025 | ISBN: 1032565160 | 294 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 74 MB
It first explores the development and applications of technically enhanced natural radioactivity (TENR) and addresses nuclear energy sources, the fission and fusion processes, and the issues of radioactive fallout from nuclear weapon use and test programs. Later chapters explore the cutting-edge medical applications of radioactive materials in diagnostics and therapy, exploring nuclear medicine technologies such as x-ray tomography, brachytherapy, and positron emission tomography (PET). They also detail the broad range of applications of radioactive materials in industrial production processes, in the sterilization of tools and materials in the medical and the food industries, and in the analysis of art and archaeological material to analyse paintings and painting techniques to identify fakes and forgeries. The book concludes with a discussion of the societal impact and understanding of radioactivity, alongside detailing the underlying reasons for its negative preconceptions and the possible mitigation of these through better education and information practices.

Critique of Everyday Life, Vol. 2 Foundations for a Sociology of the Everyday

Free Download Henri Lefebvre, "Critique of Everyday Life, Vol. 2: Foundations for a Sociology of the Everyday"
English | 2008 | pages: 213 | ISBN: 1859846505, 1844671925 | PDF | 27,6 mb
Henri Lefebvre’s magnum opus: a monumental exploration of contemporary society. Henri Lefebvre’s three-volume Critique of Everyday Life is perhaps the richest, most prescient work by one of the twentieth century’s greatest philosophers. Written at the birth of post-war consumerism, the Critique was a philosophical inspiration for the 1968 student revolution in France and is considered to be the founding text of all that we know as cultural studies, as well as a major influence on the fields of contemporary philosophy, geography, sociology, architecture, political theory and urbanism. A work of enormous range and subtlety, Lefebvre takes as his starting-point and guide the ‘trivial’ details of quotidian experience: an experience colonized by the commodity, shadowed by inauthenticity, yet one which remains the only source of resistance and change. This is an enduringly radical text, untimely today only in its intransigence and optimism.
