Wavelets and Statistics

Despite its short history, wavelet theory has found applications in a remarkable diversity of disciplines: mathematics, physics, numerical analysis, signal processing, probability theory and statistics. The abundance of intriguing and useful features enjoyed by wavelet and wavelet packed transforms has led to their application to a wide range of statistical and signal processing problems. On November 16-18, 1994, a conference on Wavelets and Statistics was held at Villard de Lans, France, organized by the Institute IMAG-LMC, Grenoble, France. The meeting was the 15th in the series of the Rencontres Pranco-Belges des 8tatisticiens and was attended by 74 mathematicians from 12 different countries. Following tradition, both theoretical statistical results and practical contributions of this active field of statistical research were presented. The editors and the local organizers hope that this volume reflects the broad spectrum of the conference. as it includes 21 articles contributed by specialists in various areas in this field. The material compiled is fairly wide in scope and ranges from the development of new tools for non parametric curve estimation to applied problems, such as detection of transients in signal processing and image segmentation. The articles are arranged in alphabetical order by author rather than subject matter. However, to help the reader, a subjective classification of the articles is provided at the end of the book. Several articles of this volume are directly or indirectly concerned with several as pects of wavelet-based function estimation and signal denoising.

Wavelets and Other Orthogonal Systems

Free Download Xiaoping Shen, "Wavelets and Other Orthogonal Systems"
English | 2001 | pages: 391 | ISBN: 0367397811 | PDF | 12,1 mb
A bestseller in its first edition, Wavelets and Other Orthogonal Systems: Second Edition has been fully updated to reflect the recent growth and development of this field, especially in the area of multiwavelets. The authors have incorporated more examples and numerous illustrations to help clarify concepts. They have also added a considerable amount of new material, including sections addressing impulse trains, an alternate approach to periodic wavelets, and positive wavelet s. Other new discussions include irregular sampling in wavelet subspaces, hybrid wavelet sampling, interpolating multiwavelets, and several new statistics topics.

Wavelets and Operators

English | 1993 | pages: 223 | ISBN: 0521420008, 0521458692 | DJVU | 1,6 mb
Over the last two years, wavelet methods have shown themselves to be of considerable use to harmonic analysts and, in particular, advances have been made concerning their applications. The strength of wavelet methods lies in their ability to describe local phenomena more accurately than a traditional expansion in sines and cosines can. Thus, wavelets are ideal in many fields where an approach to transient behaviour is needed, for example, in considering acoustic or seismic signals, or in image processing. Yves Meyer stands the theory of wavelets firmly upon solid ground by basing his book on the fundamental work of Calderón, Zygmund and their collaborators. For anyone who would like an introduction to wavelets, this book will prove to be a necessary purchase.

2009 | 394 Pages | ISBN: 383480472X | PDF | 8 MB
