This trip was always intended to be a journey, joining the dots. Cycling from places I have been before, to places I’ve never been. Revisiting special places, and finding new special places. Seeing for myself what others have talked about, places that previously I’ve only seen from 30,000 feet, places I’ve read about, or dreamed of visiting. The initial plan involved visiting 64 countries over four years and eight months. Ju said it was too long. Cut it in half. So, there I was, on a 900 day, 50,000km, adventure, joining the dots in 41 countries.

A Concise History of New Zealand Ed 2

Free Download Philippa Mein Smith, "A Concise History of New Zealand Ed 2"
English | ISBN: 1107402174 | 2012 | 370 pages | AZW3 | 5 MB
New Zealand was the last major landmass, other than Antarctica, to be settled by humans. The story of this rugged and dynamic land is beautifully narrated, from its origins in Gondwana some 80 million years ago to the twenty-first century. Philippa Mein Smith highlights the effects of the country’s smallness and isolation, from its late settlement by Polynesian voyagers and colonisation by Europeans – and the exchanges that made these people Maori and Pakeha – to the dramatic struggles over land and recent efforts to manage global forces. A Concise History of New Zealand places New Zealand in its global and regional context. It unravels key moments – the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, the Anzac landing at Gallipoli, the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior – showing their role as nation-building myths and connecting them with the less dramatic forces, economic and social, that have shaped contemporary New Zealand.

Lethal Force and New Zealand Police The History, Law, Practice and Reality of Lethal Force Use by a Well-Armed and Capa

Free Download Richard S. Shortt, "Lethal Force and New Zealand Police: The History, Law, Practice and Reality of Lethal Force Use by a Well-Armed and Capa"
English | ISBN: 3031052684 | 2022 | 266 pages | PDF | 6 MB
This book challenges the notion that the New Zealand Police are one of only four global police services that does not have routinely armed officers, using arguments and facts drawn from 2000 to 2019, a period of important change for the organisation and its relationship with firearms, particularly following the outrages of the Christchurch mosques terrorist massacres in 2019, and the 2020 shooting death of a young police constable in Aotearoa New Zealand. This book provides a brief history of the Police from its beginnings to the present day with a specific focus on its relationship with firearms, which contextualize the law that justifies use of lethal force in a country that has abolished the death penalty. It examines police policies, procedures, training and structures governing deployment and use of firearms in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the independent oversight that now applies to fatal and non-fatal shootings by Police. Using 43 publicly released oversight agency reports and data directly related to police shootings, such as who is being shot, this book investigates how the police are using lethal force, who is being affected, and what this might mean for the service with regards to the operational deployment of firearms and the potential for use of lethal force within the community into the future.
